Coast Range Association (CRA) - Chuck Willer, Director of the CRA, will update Thyme Garden Earthday visitors on the current forest management plans for our public forests and help us focus our energy to take action to protect this valuable resource. The CRA was the first organization in the U.S. to publish a bioregional conservation plan (1994). They have led on documenting forest ownership and the socioeconomic analysis of the timber industry.

Did you know that local federal forests are the No. 1 carbon storage forests in the whole country? The CRA has been in the forefront of public interest advocacy for our world-class forests. Currently, all three major public forestland owners, the BLM, the Forest Service and the State of Oregon, are working on new management plans. The CRA is deeply involved in all three planning efforts. The Thyme Garden Earth Day celebration is a great opportunity to hear the latest news

So, after a couple of weeks of research I wanted to catch everyone up, and remind you that this Monday, March 23 8:59pm is the deadline for submitting Public Comment opposing this BS!
⬇️ You can do that & LEARN MORE HERE ⬇️

Tons of info, links, maps, etc. included in ECC's Call To Action(CTA)👆🏼Alot of what I mention in this video is outlined in the 'Truth about Oregon Timber' file there. (Quick, easy read)

So, If you're curious about the combined reasons why our Logging economy fell, please check it out. (versus the decades long industry-pushed propaganda & purposeful division created by blaming it all on the spotted owl).

And, here's a little history if you want to read more...👇🏼
First came increased automation, raw log exports, cheap labor, and the mid-80's shift to Wall-Street "Financial Forestry" that allowed huge corporations to harvest our forest's resources to near extinction while slowly kicking our locals out of the equation...
Then, due to the heavily unsustainable corporate practices of over-logging for quick returns, (on top of nearly a century of Old-Growth logging) came the NW forest plan to slow it down so some contiguous Old Growth would be spared in order to protect the water and habitat for imperiled species including the Pacific Coho Salmon, spotted owl and more.
–That move, by the way, came first from the Head of the Siuslaw National Forest, right here at home! The local Forest Service got very worried about the terrible state the streams and rivers were in, and the massive decline of the Salmon population.–
Thus began the years of research, studies, findings, hearings, lawsuits & eventually court injunction that led to creating the NW Forest plan (93-94). The NWFP didn't happen overnight, and it didn't happen "To" the logging industry – it happened Because of the Logging industry.

"Financial forestry" (REITS & TIMO's) have continued to take over the majority of Oregon's private Forestland. So our only chance at maintaining good water quality, intact moist & wet forest types, and Old-Growth habitat is to protect what we have left on public land!

Which brings us right back to telling BLM & Bentz– NO WAY!! Absolutely NOT.
Short term returns for their Wall Street investor buddies while a lifetime of forest loss is for the rest of us. Learn more & TAKE ACTION at: https://emeraldcurtaincollective.org/cta/tell-blm-no/

🙏🏼Please stay tuned for more Actions we can take too, as this is JUST ONE in a long string of actions from the administration to abuse our public land and resources. Btw, an excellent resource on Financial Forestry, NWFP & more is at the Coast Range Association website: coastrange.org
And go to CRA's ACT NOW page to check out their awesome MARMOT, LIDAR project w/ TallTrees.org
You can see the height and probable age of the BLM & NF forests in their crazy, super zoomable mapping project!!

How about some good news?!

HB 4134, the “1.25% for Wildlife” bill, has passed the Oregon Senate and is now headed to Governor Tina Kotek’s desk to be signed into law.

This bill will create a dedicated funding source for conservation by modestly increasing Oregon’s statewide lodging tax by 1.25%—which will still leave the state’s tax among the lowest in the country. The funding will help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife recover at-risk species, restore habitat, and strengthen the ecosystems that support both biodiversity and Oregon’s outdoor recreation economy.

This is a landmark moment. For years, Oregon lacked a stable funding source to protect and recover its most imperiled species and habitats. This bill changes that. It also demonstrates something important: when people speak up for wildlife, it makes a difference. THANK YOU OREGONIANS!

Steve Pearce is a fool. Sure, if the entire forest is removed stream flow will increase along with sediment and flash flooding. Plantations over 15 years of age increasingly deplete stream flow in the worst time of the year - hot summer low flow days. Big, intact, closed canopy forests provide the best stream flow in the hot summer months. And intact forests hold sediment, slowly releasing clean water.

During a Senate nomination hearing, oil-industry friend Steve Pearce failed to reassure concerned public lands owners
