On April 22, AAUW-CC celebrated 10 Miller High School senior girls for their academic achievements. These young ladies, along with their principal, the librarian, classmates, counselors, teachers, parents, siblings, members of the Del Mar (DMC) AAUW student group, their college sponsors, and members of the Community Outreach Committee of AAUW, gathered at the school to mark
their step to higher learning and personal dreams. Each young lady was presented with a gift bag to help them on their way to higher education. Congratulations and good luck to each of you!

🇺🇲 WWII uncovered: In Memoriam: Honoring Maxine Edmondson Flournoy of the Women Air force Service Pilots

Please join us at WW II uncovered in honoring the life and service of Maxine Edmondson Flournoy who served during World War II as a pilot with the Women Air force Service Pilots. Maxine obtained her pilot's license in 1941 and became a WASP in 1943. She trained at Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Texas and was assigned to the navigation school at Hondo Army Airfield in Texas where she trained cadet navigators in the Beechcraft C-45 among other aircraft.

"When the WASP program was deactivated in December 1944 Maxine began employment as a company pilot in Alice, Texas where she met her husband Lucien Flournoy. The couple had three daughters Mary Anne, Betty and Helen. Together Maxine and Lucien owned and operated Flournoy Drilling Company and Alice Aviation for many decades."

"Mrs. Flournoy was active in civic life - becoming a member of The Texas Historical Commission. Maxine was appointed by President Jimmy Carter as a member of the World USO Board of Directors. She was also active with the local USO in Ingleside and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi." - Seaside Funeral Home obituary.

According to CAF Rise Above: "In 2002 Maxine served as the President of the WASP Association. In March of 2010, she traveled to Washington DC to accept the Congressional Gold Medal in recognition of her role as a WASP in the military. The Commemorative Air Force in Ingleside was named the Maxine Flournoy Third Coast Squadron CAF in her honor in 2004."

Maxine Edmondson Flournoy passed away on April 5, 2023 at the age of 102 years old. Rest in peace Maxine - You will always a member of the Greatest Generation. Lest We Forget.
