We are at the end of May, brain cancer awareness month. You have helped raise $111,000 dollars that goes directly towards research and help find a cure for kids like Julian. It’s a tremendous feat we thank you all for the help. Please keep it going, share the link and what Julian’s fight means to you. How you watched Julian battle for six years with just his spirit, the support of a great community, and treatments that were mostly developed 40 years ago. Help change that last part, help get us to a treatment that will be the home run cure.
Thank you.

Today we had the honor of presenting The Spirit of Julian Award to a special Pre K student at St. Pius X, Emma, who embodies Julian’s wonderful spirit. We wanted to give back a little to the school and church community who gave so much love to our family. We can never fully repay but we can pay it forward in small ways and will cover Emma’s family commitment fee for next school year year. Part of the speech that was given 👇

Julian Liam Galloway started K3 at Saint Pius X Catholic School in 2018. He quickly made his mark in the hearts of his teachers, staff and fellow students. Julian was truly special in so many ways. In our precious time with Julian, he taught us all to enjoy every day to your fullest. He was sweet, kind, joyful, gregarious, and had a smile and laugh that could light up any room. He was everyone’s friend but had a special ability to sense and connect with other children who needed a friend or were different, other kids with cancer, or other kids who had disabilities, visible or not. This was where his very rambunctious spirit would instantly calm and we would see him care for other children more than himself.

When Monica and I are on campus, we see that the Spirit of Julian is alive and well in these halls. The joy, the laughter, purity and innocence of the pre K children warms our hearts and reminds us of Julian and the words of Matthew 18 1-5, At this time the disciples came to Jesus and said, 'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven?' So he called a little child to him whom he set among them. Then he said, 'In truth I tell you, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of Heaven. And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven. 'Anyone who welcomes one little child like this in my name welcomes me.’

Last week of Brain Cancer Awareness Month and last week of this campaign. Every dollar helps find a cure. We are emotionally drained, May brings some of the best memories of Julian swimming, school field days and award ceremonies, Corpus Christi Hooks Games, Toga parties, birthday parties, plans for summer, events held in his honor. But also, the memory of his last relapse happening in May, and now events are held in Julian's memory. He was so happy to have caught this frog in the pool, he wanted to keep it as a pet, one my best summer memories with Julian. May 14, 2023.

Julian’s friend Kimmy is battling a secondary cancer after almost 13 years of No Evidence of Disease. See yesterday’s post to get caught up. She and her family will endure months of trips from the Corpus area to Houston and having to live up there for 30 rounds of radiation. I asked what we can do and realized what helped us the most is gift cards, gas, food, groceries it all adds up fast when you’re a parent trying to hold it all together far from home. First $100 is on me, will you join us in helping? If you are local to Corpus, I can collect cards and hand them over to the family, if you are out of town message me or Hope for Kimmy page 👇 for a mailing address.

Kimmy and her family are our dear friends, originally from New York, they moved to South Texas. Kimmy survived medulloblastoma as a child, but like so many other kids who go through treatment, she developed a secondary cancer. Please offer her some prayers and support!

The Cure Starts Now posted this a while back and I somehow missed seeing it. In reality I probably woke up and saw a bunch of other posts about international childhood cancer day and checked out of social media for the rest of the day 😢 When you’ve gone through it, everyday is childhood cancer day. You are either going through treatment, or on edge afraid it could return, or where we are now, grasping for good memories and wishing the bad ones would stop. These were good ones with Stella

I’m still angry, every day, that Julian’s not here and the only answer is “he just had one of the really bad kinds”. Unacceptable. My family will forever bear the traumatic scars of walking through this with Julian. Still waiting for his headstone but his name has been added to the family bench, between his Grandmother and Great Grandparents. In the natural order, there should not have been room there for his name.

It is brain cancer awareness month and in Julian’s memory, we are helping raise research money with The Cure Starts Now. Please join us, even $5 makes a difference!
