Pupdate: Joey (fka Bond)

“My husband and I adopted Joey (then Bond) one year ago today. He was an Irish cream puppy born with a liver shunt, which was operated on twice before he hit 1.5 years old (second operation about a month after his first birthday).

While Joey is not fully cleared health wise just yet, he is doing so well! He is a happy and energetic boy who loves treats and belly rubs. He goes to the local dog park on a regular basis and is always excited to make new friends and convince them to chase him. He’s been on adventures along the coast of California and is headed to Big Bear next month! When at home, he takes fantastic care of his kitty brothers and can often be found lounging on the couch with them. He is SUCH a good boy and we are forever grateful he is part of our family.

His last bloodwork showed a reduction in ammonia in his blood, suggesting the second operation may have been a success. His appetite is rampant and he has energy for days, so we are extremely hopeful.

At the end of the day, though, we are just happy to wake up each morning to his sweet face and cherish every moment we can spend with him. Thank you again for helping bring this boy into our lives, we love him so much!”

We love when our seniors find a loving home to live out their years with the love they deserve!

This is the case with super sweet Boaz....

Boaz was an owner turn in from a family that left him in the backyard for years all day when they felt he was "too jumpy" for their kids. It was heartbreaking.

Boaz came to our amazing fosters, and their sweet lab Marcy.

He was flea ridden and matted, and had clearly been ignored for years. They took him for a flea treatment and his vetting and the off to a patient groomer to cut out all of the years of matting to help get him ready for his SCGRR website photos!

Our experienced fosters (40+ dogs for various rescues) and told us Boaz was the most special boy they have ever fostered. He had a sweet disposition, easily adapted to their home and was incredibly sweet with Marcy.

When we posted Boaz our first applicant was a family that wrote: I wish to give a senior dog spoilt twilight years filled with lots of love and care.

They touched our hearts and we knew it was meant to be. We spoke about the life they would share with him and they told me about the wonderful travels that Boaz would have as he traveled with them to their second home in Colorado as well as live here in SoCal.

Boaz (now Beau) will fill his senior years with love, travels and excitement to compensate for all the years he missed out.

We have received amazing texts with how great he did right away and they feel they hit the jackpot! Honestly, we know he did!

An extra special anniversary update from one of our board members on sweet pup Silly!

“Silly has come such a long way in the last year! She fetched and swam her way from 80 lbs to 50 lbs. She still likes being home best, but has been to the beach several times and on a road trip to Sedona. She learned how to swim (loves it!) and how to play with Ollie (only if there are no balls to fetch!). She is a world class snuggler, a masterful lizard hunter, and the absolute sweetest addition to our family!”

Happy 1st Gotcha Day Anniversary, Lacey!

From her forever family:

“Thank you so much for remembering Lacey's adoption anniversary! We can't believe it has already been a year, and we're so happy to share an update.

Lacey fit in from day one. She was a little cautious for about three days while she figured out her new surroundings, and then her clown personality came right out. That's when we knew she felt at home. She met her senior brother, Friday, and quickly became his boss. Together, they became our neighborhood watch, from the comfort of our couch.

Our house is now littered with toys every day. Lacey goes to her toy box, picks one out, comes and stares at you to start a game, and then runs off hoping for an exhilarating chase. She is so gentle with every toy. When she gets bored, she drops it wherever she is, just like a kid, and goes to choose another one.

She also loves to hold paws, and to Lacey, hands and feet are all paws. Working from home, it's hard to keep a free hand to type! She gently places her paw on your hand, and if you ignore her, she gets firmer and firmer until you give in. She is relentless. She's a true Velcro dog, which is perfect, because we are two sides of one Velcro strip.

Lacey is also deeply empathetic. She senses our excitement, our tiredness, or our sadness and mirrors it right back. In August, we said goodbye to Friday at home. Throughout that time, Lacey lay beside him and guarded him. She was quiet and still, nothing like her usual playful self. We will always remember that.

Every moment with this goldendoodle makes us laugh, and she brings so much levity to our lives. She has settled into every nook and cranny of our home and into all of our hearts, and we can't imagine life without her. Lacey is living her best life and helping us live ours.

Thank you to everyone at SCGRR: the volunteer who came to meet us and qualify us as adopters, Lacey's foster family, our adoption coordinator, and both of you for following up. Your careful screening and thoughtful follow-up made all the difference. We are so grateful to be part of your adoption story.”

We are so happy for Lacey and her family but also sad and so sorry for their loss of Friday.
