Bruce came to us as an owner surrender after his young owner moved away and his parents did not want to continue caring for him.
Bruce was lucky to land with our foster and her family, who did an amazing job fostering this very sweet, very LARGE boy. ❤️

He eventually went to a home that seemed like a perfect fit, including another playful dog. Unfortunately, their dog decided Bruce — who is approximately the size of a small pony — was a little too intimidating, so Bruce came back to us.

Bruce then met a family who had already fallen in love with him from his pictures and bio. They both work from home, love walks and weekend hikes, have dog friends for him to play with, and most importantly, their kids specifically wanted a dog who loves affection and cuddles.

Well… they definitely came to the right place.

Their family had lost their beloved Benny to cancer and was ready to open their hearts again. The moment they met Bruce, they fell in love — and Bruce clearly felt the same way.

It was the absolute perfect match, and we are very happy to report that they still absolutely love their giant cuddle bug. 😂❤️

Happy forever, Bruce! Enjoy the walks, hikes, playdates and all the cuddles you could possibly want.

Ellie Mae came into rescue as part of the FWITA program.

At 8 months old, her prior owners, prior SCGRR adopters, came to the difficult decision that having a puppy with puppy energy was probably not the wisest decision. They are older and their 2 other dogs are older as well. So they decided Ellie Mae needed a much more active home than they can provide and called us up to help. They were sad to do it but they knew it was in Ellie Mae's best interest.

Ellie Mae went to a FWITA home - mom, dad and her husband, and their 2 sweet boys. Mom picked up Ellie Mae (she lives only 20 min. away from her prior owners) and it was not long before Ellie Mae made herself right at home and the boys were loving her.
Every check in, we got an enthusiastic reply, "she's doing great!"

After a week with the new family, we received an eager text stating, "we'd like to officially adopt her".

Ellie Mae is now just Ellie and she will be raised along with her 2 human sibling brothers - they really are the cutest family! Lucky Ellie🥰

Thank you FWITA family for taking her in and being that active family that she needed.

ONE YEAR UPDATE: Pippa, now Molly! 🐾

It’s been one whole year since Molly found her forever home, and she has officially settled right in. From making friends with every dog and person she meets to claiming all her favorite sleeping spots, she has brought so much energy, love, and joy into her family’s lives.

Her family says they thought they were training Molly, but really, Molly was training them! We couldn’t be happier to see her thriving and so loved in her forever home. ❤️

Happy one year, sweet Molly!

Pupdate: Tammy…and Bella too.

“Tammy — who we renamed Mimi — is doing great! She is a very good girl! Her transition has (is) taking longer than expected but she makes progress every month. She is still shy around new people but once she’s comfortable, she loves to be petted. She enjoys viewing the outdoors from our bedroom balcony and neighbors love waving to her as they go by. She is super bonded to our senior Golden (Bella) — everywhere Bella goes, Mimi follows! She will even sit on Bella in tight surrounding like on a small loveseat, it’s so funny! Mimi loves her stuffed animal toys and will present one to you — in case you want to chew it too…LOL!

All of our family and friends comment on her friendly and loving personality and that she’s a classic good looking Golden. Here are some pics. Note, Bella is the full “sugar face”, and she was adopted from your organization on Sep 10, 2022. (Her original name was Scarlet.) She has the friendliest personality and LOVES to wind between your legs for endless petting. We call it The Petting Tunnel.

Bella is the Queen Bee and Mimi is the Best Princess. We are always asked where we got both girls and we proudly share they are adopted from SCGRR!”

Sapphire, (fondly called Jewels by Foster Mom) ended up as a stray at a shelter.
And Why didn’t anyone come looking for this sweet, lovely lady? She is adorable.
Lucky for her, Laurie Rittenberg noticed her on the shelter website.

Jewels did have some medical issues that needed to be cleared up. She was very itchy, had dry, flaky & scabby skin, loss of hair & needed medicated baths 2X a week & mousse applications, kennel cough and both ears had infections.

Foster has 2 SCGRR alumni resident male Goldens & a cat. Her 98 year old Mom also lives with her & her husband.
As Jewels settled in, she noticed that although she was fine with the Goldens, she didn’t really care to interact with them, she was a people dog who loved to snuggle & be close. And especially loved to hang out with her Mom.

Jewels has a very gentle nature for her age, and doesn’t jump up on you when greeting new people. Foster mom thought that Jewels would really enjoy a quiet home, with an ‘older’ lady as a forever Mom.

When she went up on the site, we weren’t surprised to see the abundance of requests for this lovely pup.
But one email checked all the boxes & then some.
She is a 2X SCGRR adopter, having taken care of a very obese golden (130 lbs. down 50 lbs.) and her last golden that needed extensive medical care. She is a very active, fit lady with more stamina & s***k than what you would even dare classify as “older”.

Every year she takes a road trip (with her loyal Golden) & spends 2 months in Oregon in a cabin on a lake, so her Goldens have a Dream Summer.
At home here in SoCal, she walks the area, goes to dog beach, dog friendly restaurants & visits with neighbors & dog friends.

We’ve been getting lots of “pupdates” fiancé the adoption - Jewels is now Jilly & already living the Good life, constant companionship, lots of toys, beds & LOVE.

Happy life sweet Jilly!

Today is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day—a soft, meaningful moment to pause and honor the companions who brought endless light, warmth, and joy into our lives.

Once a Golden enters your heart, they stay there forever. Whether they spent a full, long life by your side or only shared a brief chapter with you, every single one left a permanent set of pawprints on our souls. We know how deep the love runs, and we know how heavy the silence feels when they are gone.
To our incredible rescue family: We would love to celebrate their lives together today.

🐾 Please drop a photo in the comments below of your beloved Golden (or angel pup) who has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Tell us their name, their favorite quirk, or a happy memory that still makes you smile.

Let’s fill this page with their faces, their stories, and the love they gave us.

🌈 Golden angels are forever in our hearts.🐾🐾

🤎 CHURRO (Winnie) IS ON THE MEND! 🤎

We have one HUGE reason to celebrate: YOU helped make a difference. 🥹

Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who donated, shared, supported, and rallied behind Churro and his family, our fundraising goal was reached! 🎉 The financial support provided has greatly reduced the financial stress on Churro’s family during an incredibly difficult and unexpected situation.

Every donation, no matter the size, helped. Every share helped. Every message of encouragement helped. ❤️

From Churro, his family, and all of us at SCGRR — THANK YOU. 🐾

This is exactly what rescue is about: showing up when it matters, supporting our rescue families, and making sure our dogs are surrounded by love — no matter what life throws their way.

Any donations received in excess of what is needed for Churro’s family will be donated directly to Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue (SCGRR) to help support the many other dogs in our care who need medical attention, supplies, and a second chance. 🐾🤎

Thank you for helping turn a difficult situation into a story with a very happy ending.
