👨‍👦This Father's Day weekend, we're celebrating all the incredible dads and those of children battling cancer, especially Victoria's daddy, just as she lovingly called him! 💙✨

Victoria's journey with brain cancer was incredibly challenging, and her dad was right there, a strong beam of support for her and their family through every single moment.

Happy Father's Day, Larry! 😍 You are so loved! ❣️

🦺👔🧢🪖Father's Day is just around the corner!
VSOJ has had the opportunity to meet fathers of children with cancer—men with truly heroic stories!

Take "Dad Tom," for example. He is a single father raising his teenage daughter after the recent passing of his wife and son. Tom is the sole caregiver for his daughter as she fights a fierce battle against the disease. He faces immense challenges in caring for and providing for his daughter, while also managing the demands of her illness and the cost of living.

Without a doubt, Tom is a hero in the fight against childhood cancer with his daughter!

Share a brief story about a hero dad with us!
Tell us whatever you’d like to highlight about him.

Email it to [email protected]
or text it to 951-444-0464.

Please include the dad's name and the story you wish to share. Every story can inspire other parents and help them, too!

Families often describe the days and weeks after a child's cancer diagnosis as overwhelming. Among the many confronting decisions patients and families face, they go through a wave of different emotions and their reactions. Children and teens will respond to their cancer diagnosis in different ways. Fear, anger, sadness, and crying are all common reactions.

💡🎗Talking to them about their reactions could give you a chance to find ways to manage what they are feeling. When these emotions and reactions create conflict or concerns, seek support from your medical team. Ask the social workers, child life team, doctor, or pediatric cancer nurse about the resources available to support your child and help him/her cope with the shocking effects of a childhood cancer diagnosis and process.

The well-being of your child includes healthy management of emotions! Talk to your medical team when you need support!

There are good days and not-so-good days at the hospital. We recently heard about one of our little patients who didn't want to leave the hospital where he was being treated. He was happy to be there, despite the not-so-good days. How brave! 👊

Victoria offered words of encouragement, reminding everyone to stay strong and keep the faith during the fight! 🤗 She inspired others through the unimaginable.

Thank you to the parents for sharing these messages with VSOJ and for inspiring other parents and children to stay strong and keep moving forward!

Friends, Patient and Family Support–Victoria's Sparks of Joy program directly supports some families to stay at home in critical moments during the journey with childhood cancer.
These families are directed to us by hospital social services.

THANKS ❤️ to your generosity, we are able to keep (some) the patient and the family in a safe place while they endure severe and critical days and weeks when the patient is very sick and parents cannot meet the demands of the cost of living.
