Congratulations, Rylee Ann Eklund!

Please join us in congratulating Rylee on earning her NAUI Advanced Open Water Diver and Nitrox Diver certifications!

Rylee has demonstrated the dedication, commitment, and hard work required to achieve these certifications. Most importantly, she understands that safety is the foundation of every successful dive. Developing strong skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to safe diving practices are essential as she continues to grow as a diver.

Rylee is already looking ahead to her next adventure, with plans to complete the NAUI Rescue Diver course in the near future and travel with the Reef Rangers Dive Club.

Rylee, we are sincerely proud of you and all that you have accomplished. We look forward to sharing incredible adventures, exploring new dive sites, and making unforgettable memories together as we discover the wonders of the ocean around the world.

Tomorrow! Don’t forget. We can’t wait to see everyone. Don’t forget you can watch live starting at 7pm.

We've all enjoyed incredible dives around Catalina Island. But did you know that one of the most important safety resources for Southern California divers is located right on the island?

Join us on Thursday, October 15, at 6:30 PM as we welcome Dr. Jeff Bozanic for a fascinating look inside the USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber—a facility that has been helping protect divers for more than 50 years!

A Lifeline for Southern California Divers

Located near Two Harbors at USC's Wrigley Marine Science Center, the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber is one of the few facilities in the country dedicated to treating diving emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

From decompression sickness (the bends) to air embolisms, the chamber and its dedicated volunteer team play a critical role when diving emergencies occur.

And here's something you might not know: This incredible operation relies heavily on donations from the diving community to keep its doors open!

What You'll Discover

What actually happens inside a hyperbaric chamber?
How are divers rescued, transported, and treated after a diving accident?
What is decompression sickness, and why can it happen even to experienced divers?
Who are the dedicated volunteers behind the Catalina Chamber?
What can we do to become safer, better-prepared divers?

Meet Our Guest Speaker: Dr. Jeff Bozanic

Dr. Bozanic brings extensive experience in scuba education, diving science, and underwater exploration. He'll help us explore the important work of the Catalina Chamber and why this remarkable facility matters to everyone who dives Southern California waters.

Whether you're a brand-new diver or have hundreds of dives in your logbook, this is a meeting you won't want to miss!

Reminder for Tomorrow’s Meeting! If you can’t join us in person you can follow live here on our page. Join us in person for food and prizes! Bring a dish for the potluck.

Join us for our September Reef Rangers Dive Club meeting as we welcome Capt. Nancy L. Caruso, marine biologist and founder of Get Inspired, for an evening focused on marine conservation, restoration, and the incredible ecosystems we explore as divers.

Nancy knew she wanted to become a marine biologist from the fourth grade—before she had even seen the ocean. That early curiosity eventually became a career dedicated to restoring and protecting California’s marine environment.

In 2009, Nancy founded Get Inspired, a nonprofit organization that brings scientists, students, divers, volunteers, and local communities together through hands-on science and ocean restoration.

Her work has helped restore Orange County’s kelp forests, involve volunteer divers in underwater monitoring and restoration, educate thousands of students, and support efforts to restore species including giant kelp, green abalone, white seabass, and Pismo clams.

For those of us who spend time beneath the surface, this is a great opportunity to hear firsthand what it takes to restore the ecosystems we love to dive—and how community involvement can make a measurable difference.
