On Friday, July 17th, the Green Mountain Nurses Honor Guard had the profound honor of providing our first tribute at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, Vermont, where we honored the life and legacy of IRENE ANN WHITE.

Irene began her nursing journey at the Hanover School of Practical Nursing, earning her LPN license and dedicating her life to the care of others. Throughout her career, she served in a variety of nursing roles, including at the VA Hospital, Medical Associates in Bethel, and Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, where she faithfully cared for her community for more than 20 years before retiring in 2008.

Among her many accomplishments, Irene found great fulfillment as a pediatric nurse, compassionately caring for children and supporting families through some of life's most important moments.

Irene is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Norman "Gene" White, a United States veteran. It is through his honorable service to our country that Irene is laid to rest at The Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

It was a privilege for the Green Mountain Nurses Honor Guard to honor Irene’s legacy of SERVICE & COMPASSION. Rest in peace Irene…your caring spirit and commitment to your patients will never be forgotten.

The Green Mountain Nurses Honor Guard was honored to pay tribute to JACQUELINE “JACKIE” SWARTZ, celebrating a nurse whose life was defined by COMPASSION, SERVICE, and unwavering DEDICATION to her patients.

Mom to three, stepmom to four, Mimi to ten, and nurse to countless patients and families, Jackie led with her heart. To her, every patient was family. She fiercely advocated for those in her care, celebrated their victories, and grieved alongside them in their struggles.
At her service at the South Hero Congregational Church, a former patient shared a heartfelt tribute, describing the love, support, and compassion Jackie gave to patients and their families. Surrounded by family, friends, former patients, nurse colleagues, and pediatricians, it was clear how many lives she had touched.

For the Green Mountain Nurses Honor Guard, Jackie’s farewell was especially meaningful. Several members had the privilege of working alongside Jackie, remembering her as an CARING nurse, TRUSTED colleague, and EXCEPTIONAL mentor. Throughout her decades long nursing career in pediatrics at Pediatric Medicine in South Burlington, VT and University of Vermont Medical Center, she inspired and guided countless nurses with her knowledge, kindness, and example.

Her family shared that Jackie passed peacefully during a thunderstorm, with a rumble of thunder marking the moment she was gone. As if perfectly timed, Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler" was playing, bringing smiles through tears. Though she wasn't the drinking, smoking, or gambling type, she loved Kenny Rogers, making it a fitting and memorable farewell.

Rest easy, Nurse Jackie. THANK YOU for your years of service, your unwavering compassion, and the countless lives you touched. Your legacy will continue through every patient cared for by the nurses you inspired.

It was a beautiful Vermont day to HONOR the beautiful life of VIRGINIA LEE RUBIN at the Georgia United Methodist.

A dedicated nurse, Ginny spent her career caring for others, a CALLING she embraced wholeheartedly. She graduated from the ARMY NURSE CORPS' RN program through Mercy Hospital in Canton • Ohio. She went on to put her skills to use in various hospital settings, and also provided private duty nursing care. As her children grew older, she shifted her focus into the medical office environment, cherishing the evenings and weekends she could spend with her family. No matter where her career took her, Ginny's fierce DEVOTION to her patients, friends, and family was always evident, earning her a special place in their hearts.

Ginny's personality was as impactful as her nursing career. She had an opinion on everything and never held back, yet her loved ones cherished this forthright essence. Her infectious spirit touched everyone she met, and her laughter resonated in the hearts of her friends and family.

🤍 🕊️ Green Mountain Nurses Honor Guard was honored to be called to pay tribute to ROSALIE L. JACQUES (see obituary in comments) at her graveside service at Mount Calvery Cemetery in St. Albans, Vermont on Saturday, June 6th, 2026.

Rosalie earned her nursing degree from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Nashua, New Hampshire. Her nursing career spanned more than 27 years in the Pediatrics Department at Kerbs Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Medical Center. She also served for 13 years as a part-time nurse in the office of H. Taylor Yates, MD.

We thank Rosalie for her many years of devoted service to her community and for the PROFESSIONALISM, EMPATHY, and LOVE she shared throughout her career. Her LEGACY of CARING will not be forgotten.

🕊️ 💙 As Nurses Week 2026 comes to a close, the New Hampshire Nurse Honor Guard and Green Mountain Nurses Honor Guard were honored to collaborate with
Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) to share the mission of the Nurses Honor Guard…honoring the lifelong SERVICE, DEDICATION, and COMPASSION of nurses.

We are deeply grateful to DHMC Community for the warm welcome, hospitality, and enthusiasm for our volunteer work as we pay tribute to the nurses who have done this important work before us. 💙 🕊️

🤍 🕊️It was an HONOR to pay tribute to EVA BOGUE (see obituary in comments) at her graveside service in Underhill, VT. Eva was a PROUD registered nurse whose life was dedicated to caring for others. A 1952 graduate of the Mary Fletcher Hospital School of Nursing, she worked part-time at the UVM infirmary while raising her family, and later devoted many years full-time to the Burlington Convalescent Center until her retirement.

At 95 years old, Eva leaves behind a legacy of COMPASSION, SERVICE, and DEDICATION to her community and family.
The LIFE SHE LIVED will be remembered with great RESPECT and GRATITUDE. 🕊️🤍

💙 Today, Rutland Regional Medical Center kicked off Nurses Week, and the
Green Mountain Nurses Honor Guard was honored to be part of this special celebration recognizing nurses and their dedication.

NURSES WEEK is observed each year from MAY 6 through MAY 12, beginning with National Nurses Day and concluding on Florence Nightingale’s birthday. This meaningful week highlights the COMPASSION, COMMITMENT, and SACRIFICES nurses make every day in caring for others.

We are proud to stand alongside and honor all nurses for their service, professionalism, and unwavering support of patients, families, and communities. 💙
