Our chapter members enjoyed a memorable meeting yesterday (February 7th) in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum Bullpen Theater. Author David Jordan Dave Jordan switched gears (did not discuss a book) and did an hour-long presentation in which he ranked the most competitive World Series of all-time. He did this through a special ranking system he created, which determined that the 1975 Classic between the Cincinnati Reds & Boston Red Sox was the most competitive. David Karpinski David Karpinski from the Parkhurst Field Parkhurst Field Foundation discussed the story of how the foundation inherited “The Harry & Stanley Silver Collection”. He also shared stories of the cross-country road trip in which he brought the collection of 1200+ vintage autographed baseballs from Beverly Hills California to Gloversville NY, where it will soon go on display in the NYS Baseball HOF building New York State Baseball Hall of Fame in Gloversville. Details of the Addie Joss Benefit Game ball (baseballs first All-Star Game & the collections best item) were shared. The actual game ball signed by the 9 future HOF’ers & Joe Jackson who participated in the game was in attendance (and shared with attendees). Former chapter president Jeff Katz Jeff Katz closed out the meeting in which he took us through the process in which he was able to determine the date of the game of an obscure photo he recently acquired of Reggie Jackson as a Baltimore Oriole took place. It was determined that it was taken on August 24th in either the bottom of the 8th or 9th inning, as he headed to the Orioles dugout for their turn to bat. Next scheduled meeting will be Sunday July 26th (6pm) at Tillapaugh’s in Cooperstown. It will follow the HOF induction ceremonies of Carlos Beltran, Andruw Jones and Jeff Kent.

Authors Dave Jordan and Erik Sherman return for our February Meeting in the Bullpen Theater at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum to present. Jordan will present his “The Most Competitive World Series of All-Time Equation and Ranking of all World Series throughout the years.” It is a multi-media exploration, counting down to the most competitive World Series of All-Time based on a formula that he created for The Hardball Times back in 2018. Updated and revised to include newspaper clips, quotes and predictions from the last 120 years, as well as off-the-record stories and anecdotes from previous conversations with players about their World Series experiences. Sherman will also be on hand, giving a lecture on his newest book “DEWEY: Behind the Glove Glove”. Sherman collaborated on this book with Red Sox great Dwight Evans. Sherman and Dewey take fans back to a glorious time in baseball, filled with unforgettable World Series appearances in 1975 and 1986 and some of the memorable Red Sox legends he played with in his 2,505 games in Boston. The book also delves into the challenges that Evans and his family dealt with off the field. The work was a finalist for the 2024 Casey Award and selected as a ‘Best Baseball Book of 2024’ by Sports Collector’s Digest. David Karpinski from the Parkhurst Field Foundation will be providing a sneak-peek at the “Stanley Silver Vintage Autographed Ball Collection” that was recently bequeathed to the foundation and to go on display at the NYS Baseball HOF in Gloversville this summer. Chapter President Mike Hauser will provide a sneak-peek at the “Herbert Moss Baseball Library” that was also recently bequeathed to the Parkhurst Field Foundation. Former (long-time) chapter President Jeff Katz will close out the meeting with a fun presentation on a photo of Reggie Jackson as a Baltimore Oriole called "Mr. October in April, or May, or August."

A special thank you to Dave Jordan and Tom Russo for their presentations at our July 27th HOF Induction Day Meeting in Cooperstown. Dave discussed his book about newest HOF'er Dave Parker called "COBRA - A Life of Baseball and Brotherhood." He even got a call-out by Parkers son who mentioned him in the HOF speech he did on behalf of Father. This is the first time that one of our presenters has been mentioned in a HOF speech! Tom did a presentation on the 1925 World Series between the Pittsburgh Pirates & the Washington Nationals. His 100 year-look-back at the World Series has become a tradition at our Induction Day Meeting each year. Our next meeting (SABR Day Meeting) is tentatively scheduled for Saturday February 7, 2026 in the Bullpen Theater at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum . If interested in presenting at this meeting or future meetings, please message us via this page.

The Phil S. Dixon Upstate NY Negro League Baseball History Tour continued this morning with a visit to HOF’er Bud Fowler’s final resting place in Frankfort. This stop comes after Mr. Dixons speaking engagement at the Albany Library Thursday night and a visit to Negro League pitching great Frank Wickwares grave at the Vale Cemetery in Schenectady yesterday. We then took him to visit Buck Ewing Park to watch some college baseball and then a visit to Parkview Cemetery in Albany, where we literally uncovered Buck Ewing’s final resting place. Dixon is speaking in Cooperstown this afternoon and then on to speak at the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame in Gloversville’s tomorrow (Sunday) at noon for the SABR - Cliff Kachline Chapter - Cooperstown / Upstate NY Chapter Meeting. His presentation in Gloversville will talk about Upstate NY Negro League history, with special focus on some Fulton & Montgomery County connections. Admission is free and open to the public. Consider coming to listen in tomorrow from noon to 2pm.
