The International Guitar Hall Of Fame And Museum

The International Guitar Hall Of Fame And Museum THE FUTURE HOME OF THE GUITAR, GUITAR PLAYERS AND ALL THINGS GUITAR! The Guitar Hall Of Fame has been a longtime dream for renowned guitarist Arlen Roth.

The International Guitar Hall of Fame and Museum is a not-for-profit organization created to educate and entertain people about the history and continuing significance of the guitar in all genres of music. The Hall of Fame will be located in the picturesque upstate NY location of Cooperstown, a beautiful, country-like setting, classic in stature, synonymous with the term “Hall of Fame” – the perfe

ct “home” for the guitar. There will be “mini-halls” for Blues, Rock, Country, Jazz, Classical and Flamenco, Rockabilly, Folk, R&B, Steel Guitar and Bass Guitar. Plus a Museum shop, offering all kinds of wonderful Hall of Fame paraphernalia, souvenirs, instructional materials, instruments and accessories, as well as a “Hall of Fame Café”. The exhibits will be full of exciting artifacts relating to the 180-plus inducted guitarists, including their guitars, performing clothes, historical items and photos. Each exhibit will feature interactive kiosks where visitors can learn about, hear, and even see interviews and instruction by each artist on display. Fans may be drawn to exhibits about Les Paul, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, but they will leave with newfound knowledge about artists such as Blind Willie McTell, Robert Johnson and Jimmy Bryant. There will also be a continually changing exhibit gallery featuring new shows about various aspects of the world of the guitar. Each summer the Guitar Hall of Fame will feature a “Cars and Guitars Show” in the streets of Cooperstown to promote the Museum and to draw car and guitar enthusiasts worldwide. Arlen has done more to bring the guitar to the masses than almost any other player in history. He is known as “The King of Guitar Teachers” and “The Master of the Telecaster”. His company, Hot Licks, was the true pioneer in bringing video instruction and documentation by famous musical artists to the entire world, with millions sold. He has 11 solo albums to date, has published 12 best-selling books, been a top columnist for Guitar Player Magazine and has toured and recorded with many of the world’s top artists. His current lessons for Gibson.com reach hundreds of thousands all over the world. This non-profit entity will truly represent a huge part of his already substantial legacy to the world of the guitar and music in general. He has assembled a world-class group of top people for the Hall Of Fame who share his deep passion for the guitar, the most popular instrument the world has ever known! We also hope to establish a Guitar Hall of Fame Summer Camp for boys and girls interested in playing the guitar, with instruction by some of the world’s top players and teachers. The Museum will constantly be host to exciting shows, near Doubleday Field, and also has the Glimmerglass Opera House nearby as well. Our goal is to start renovation soon, and to open the doors to the Hall of Fame and Museum by 2013. Please check our website for special founding member offers. You’ll be glad you helped make this dream become a reality! http://www.guitarhalloffame.com/
And please join us often on this page for news, videos, links and updates. Each day will bring something new, and we encourage everyone to participate as a vital member of the International Guitar Hall Of Fame and Museum community.

PLAYING OUT THE STRING Arlen Roth (Aquinnah Records) *****+

Guitar legend Arlen Roth gets up close and personal on this, his 20th solo album. Playing Out The String is a walk through several genres, including the blues of course. Produced by Alex Salzman, who also contributes keyboards, this can only be described as an acoustic masterpiece.

If you’re wondering “who the hell is Arlen Roth”, let me fill you in; not only has he been at the forefront of guitar and music education with ten best-selling books, he’s played with John Prine, Levon Helm and Ry Cooder just to name a very few. He also created the guitar parts and was consultant and teacher to Ralph Macchio for my favorite blues flick Crossroads. Oh- he also made Vintage Guitar Magazine’s “Top 100 Most Influential guitarists Of All Time” list, and the Top 50 all-time acoustic guitarists by www.gibson.com

On Playing Out The String Roth paints with broad strokes across several genres, and if you’re anywhere around my age you’ll recognize many of these songs such as Walk Right In, Blue Bayou, Pancho & Lefty and Everybody’s Talkin’. It’s a bunch of fun hearing them, in some cases after many years, while Roth’s playing and approach renders them fresh to your ears once again. The sparse arrangements and Arlen’s relaxed fingerpicking and slide work make these numbers- some instrumental, some with vocals- an ultimately relaxed encounter.

Playing Out The String has been described as “an up-close at home concert in your living room”, and that’s exactly how it feels. Next to Tommy Emmanuel Arlen Roth is my favorite acoustic guitarist, and I could listen to Playing Out The String all day. Hey… I must just do that.

There is so much to say and tell about Arlen Roth as a musician and as a man, it would be impossible to write it in one short Bio. (He is, however, currently working on a real autobiography of his life!)

Born in the Bronx, NY, Arlen quickly got turned on to the guitar at the age of 9, and was deeply encouraged by his father, New Yorker Magazine cartoonist, Al Ross, who saw that Arlen was learning very quickly by ear. He began to take classical guitar lessons in Greenwich Village, but was told to leave after he bought an electric guitar! From that point on, he simply learned in real life, in front of audiences, in studios and simply by playing and teaching. In 1970, his band Steel, from White Lake, NY performed for 8 hours at the 1st Anniversary Woodstock Reunion Concert at Yasgur’s Farm in Bethel, NY, and soon after, he moved to the actual town of Woodstock, NY, where he quickly jump-started his career. His 1st published book was Slide Guitar, on Oak Publications when he was only 21 years old, and has since published numerous well-known books such as How to Play Blues Guitar, Nashville Guitar, Arlen Roth’s Complete Electric Guitar, Arlen Roth’s Complete Acoustic Guitar, Rock Guitar for Future Stars, Heavy Metal Guitar, Hot Guitar and Masters of the Telecaster.

‍His first album Guitarist, won the Montreaux Critics Award for Best Instrumental Album of the year in 1978, and his 12th album, All Tricked Out! Garnered 4 Grammy Nominations. His prowess on the Telecaster has earned him the nickname “Master of The Telecaster” and also a master of Slide Guitar, he released a Slide Guitar Summit album featuring duets with many slide guitar greats such as Johnny Winter (Johnny’s last recording), Sonny Landreth, Cindy Cashdollar, Greg Martin, Lee Roy Parnell, Jimmy Vivino, David Lindley, Rick Vito, Jack Pearson and others! This album is similar to his classic and legendary album Toolin’ Around (1993) which featured duets with greats such as Danny Gatton, Duane Eddy, Brian Setzer, Duke Robillard, Albert Lee, Sam Bush Bill Lloyd and Jerry Douglas, and which also was a documentary. He followed up that album with Toolin’ around Woodstock with LEVON HELM, with special guests Sonny Landreth, Amy Helm, Lexie Roth and Bill Kirchen.

DUG

DUG is the new musical venture of songwriter Lorkin O’Reilly and California native Jonny Pickett.
Having spent the past decade in Upstate NY releasing albums and touring extensively, Conor (Lorkin O’Reilly) moved to Dublin last year to start a new musical chapter.
Drawing inspiration from both Irish and American traditional music, DUG aims to create a transatlantic blend that reflects the musical heritages of both its members.
