The NAACP Conway Branch #5509 proudly welcomes Rev. Dr. Kenneth E. Floyd as our newly elected President on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Rev. Dr. Floyd is one of the original charter members of the historic Conway Branch and has previously served with distinction as President (twice), First Vice President, Executive Committee Member, Chair of the Legal Redress Committee, and in several other key roles.Rev. Dr. Floyd, worked alongside Elder Blain-Spain in reorganizing the Conway Branch #5509 and the Myrtle Beach Branch #5568, hosting mass meetings across Horry County to help reignite the powerful “Fire Up, Ready to Go” chant—originally led by Rev. H. H. Singleton.

Rev. Dr. Floyd has been an ever-present and unwavering fighter for civil rights:

● A longtime supporter of King Day at the Dome

● A key figure in landmark discrimination cases involving Black Bike Week (Memorial Day Bike Week) in Horry County, where several hotels, restaurants, and other businesses enforced “No Black Bikers” policies, among other injustices

● Led efforts to hold employers in Horry County and state agencies accountable for fair hiring and equitable employment practices

● Organized and led mass meetings to confront and challenge discrimination within the school system

And much more

We look forward to his continued and renewed leadership as the Branch moves forward with purpose and strength.💙💛

The NAACP Conway Branch #5509 extends its deepest gratitude to Elder Cedric D. Blain-Spain, Immediate Past President, for his historic and impactful leadership June 2025-April 2026.

In his own words, “It was never my aspiration to serve as a NAACP Branch/Unit President, but I humbly arrived to the office by virtue of serving as First Vice President.”

Elder Blain-Spain led the charge in reorganizing the Conway Branch #5509 and the Myrtle Beach Branch #5568, hosting mass meetings across Horry County to help reignite the powerful “Fire Up, Ready to Go” chant—originally led by Rev. H. H. Singleton.

We are honored that he will continue to serve on our Executive Committee and remain a steadfast advocate for civil, voting, and human rights, a powerful, prophetic, and vital voice for our communities.

Under President Blain-Spain’s administration, the Conway Branch #5509 achieved significant milestones, including:

• Awarded the National NAACP BUILD Grant, a year-long 2026 initiative strengthening our capacity and impact

• Submission of a formal request addressing Conway–Horry County jurisdictional boundaries

• Implementation and modernization of online forms to improve efficiency in daily operations, quarterly reporting, and annual compliance.

• Expansion of branch committees, membership, and community engagement

• And several other advancements that strengthened the foundation and future of the branch

●The branch hosted The Historic Black History Celebration 2026 honoring the Black Airmen’s Council and the Afro-Culture Workshop, trailblazing members of the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base Alumni Organization. We recognize their years of dedicated service, their perseverance through discrimination and inequality, and their commitment to healing and progress. Through their resilience and leadership during their time stationed at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, they helped pave the way for improved conditions and opportunities for others who followed

We thank him for his dedicated service, visionary leadership, and continued commitment to the mission of the NAACP. May God blessing, favor and protection be with and for you Elder Blain-Spain. 💙💛

Join The World Community Magazine on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 7:00 PM to hear from Sergeant Robert "Bob" Manson and Senior Master Sergeant Don R. Johnson, Co-Founders of the Black Airmen’s Council and officers with the Afro-Culture Workshop, who trailblazed as airmen and women at the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base during the 1970s, overcoming years of discrimination and inequalities. Nevertheless, through their resilience and determination, they made a profound impact in the Horry County areas. I salute the indomitable spirit of these men who turned struggle into strength and pain into progress. May their example continue to inspire us all to build, uplift, and preserve the dignity of our community every day not just in February, but all year long.
