Hi everyone! We’re excited to share three new hen rehoming events taking place late next week — including our very first event in Virginia!

Thursday, October 8 — Boyds, MD
10–11 a.m. or 5–7 p.m.

Friday, October 9 — Huntingtown, MD
5–7 p.m.

Friday, October 9 — Nokesville, VA
5–7 p.m.
Our first-ever Virginia collection site!

These events are coming together on fairly short notice, but we’re excited to be expanding into Virginia after a wonderful first six months here in Maryland. In that time, more than 1,700 ex-commercial laying hens have found new lives as backyard companions.

We’re so excited to see where these next girls’ second chapters take them!

Thank you to all who attended our very first hen adoption event with HenPals Network on Saturday 🐔

After traveling roughly 300 miles to our shelter, ✨ 124 ISA Brown hens ✨ were adopted into 20 homes. These hens are trading the commercial egg-laying life for that of the tranquil backyard flocks across Harford County where they will continue to lay eggs and discover the pet chicken life!

We'd like to give a special thank you to avian veterinarian Dr. Rebecca from Pleasantville Animal Hospital who attended in case any of these hens needed medical care (luckily, none did).

HSHC also thanks our team of 5 volunteers who checked adopters in, boxed chickens, and helped send them off to their new homes.

Lastly, thank you to Abby from HenPals and her volunteer Macey for making this event such a success!

📣 Missed this event? The Humane Society of Harford County is happy to share that another hen adoption event will be planned for this upcoming spring season, so stay tuned!

If you’ve been thinking about welcoming a few hens into your backyard, our next rehoming days are coming up! 🐔

We’ll be in Boyds & Fallston on September 5 and Huntingtown on September 6, with ex-commercial hens looking for loving backyard homes where they can begin a second chapter. ❤️

Sign up through the link in our bio to reserve your hens.

We’d love to find homes for as many of these sweet girls as possible!

Another wonderful rehoming day! 🐔

We welcomed 348 hens into loving backyard homes across two sites earlier this month. ❤️

A huge thank you to our adopters, volunteers, and everyone who has helped make these happy endings possible.

Our next rehoming days are September 5th & 6th, and we're excited to send many more hens home with their new adopters. ❤️

🐔 Our August rehoming events are now open! 🐔

Since launching this spring, 901 ex-commercial laying hens have already retired into loving homes. We're excited to help even more girls begin their next chapter this August.

📍 Saturday, August 1 • Boyds, MD • Huntingtown, MD

📍 Saturday, August 22 • Boyds, MD • Huntingtown, MD • Fallston, MD

These girls are ready for their first taste of foraging, sunbathing, and simply being chickens.

If you've been thinking about welcoming a few hens to your flock, we'd love to hear from you. Visit our website to learn more and sign up to adopt.

If you know someone who might be interested, we'd be grateful if you'd share this post with them. Each new home helps give more hens the opportunity to enjoy life beyond the commercial farm.

Thank you for being part of this community and helping us give these girls a wonderful retirement. 💛

It's been a busy spring — pictured here getting some work done with my little helper. 🐔💻

We've had a truly meaningful first spring: 901 hens rehomed across our first three events, each one now beginning to settle into a new rhythm of life.

Thank you to everyone who has adopted, supported, volunteered, and followed along so far. You make this work possible.

Our next rehoming is planned for July (date to be confirmed soon). We'll keep you posted!

Our next hen rehoming event is coming up on May 23rd, and we’re currently looking for more adoptive homes for these lovely hens. 🐔

Each hen adopted is another hen we can collect from the commercial farm.

We’ll have collection points available in both Boyds, MD (Montgomery Co.) and Huntingtown, MD (Calvert Co.) on Saturday.

We know it’s Memorial Day weekend, so for those collecting from our Montgomery County site, there may be a little flexibility with collection timing that week.

These hens are endlessly charming, full of personality, and most deserving of a sweet retirement. ❤️✨

We just received a beautifully packaged chicken first aid kit generously donated by to keep on hand for our rescue hens. It's thoughtfully stocked with supplies to help treat minor injuries, wounds, and common poultry issues.

And as an added bonus, the package was covered in what may be the cutest chicken stickers we’ve ever seen. Truly a delight from start to finish. ✨

Many thanks to Misty at 💕
