On Wednesday, 3 June 2026, Chapter AX had the pleasure of presenting the Myrtie Vinson Inspirational Scholarship Award to two deserving Colville High School seniors.
To apply for the scholarship, applicants must write an essay about a person who inspired them, or how they may have inspired another. The first recipient, Adalynn Ortner, wrote of an important woman in her life who mentored her through a difficult season of challenges, teaching her that one’s identity is not defined by setbacks but instead by their character and how they respond to those setbacks. As a result of her mentor’s influence, she now strives to support others, offering encouragement during difficult times and endeavoring to lead with compassion and humility.
Chapter AX presented Adalynn a $2500 scholarship.
In addition to the essay, every applicant must include their GPA, any honors and awards, as well as list their involvement in school and community activities. They are also asked to name a girl in their senior class they consider to be most inspirational and state the reason. Teachers are also asked to do this same thing.
Julia Baker was overwhelmingly chosen by her peers and teachers as inspirational. Here are some snippets of what they said.
From her peers:
“Kind, selfless, thoughtful, always strives to be a better person.”
“No matter what is happening, she chooses to uplift and help others.”
“Always a smile on her face, strives to make others seen and understood.”
From her teachers:
“Constant positive presence in academics and school activities, focused on building a kind and supportive school community.”
“Helps others in any situation. Positive influence academically, morally, and emotionally.”
“Kind and observant student who naturally inspires others in the classroom.”
“Such an outgoing person. Talks to everybody and makes connections. She’s an inspiration to everyone.”
Chapter AX awarded Julia a $3190 scholarship.
Good luck to these senior girls and to all the scholars who applied!

Have you ever heard of bread therapy?
Sibyl Leon-Lamica, enlightened Chapter AX of Colville of exactly what that entails at their May meeting at the home of Beverly Brown. As the founder of Bread Encounters, Sibyl created the first bread house in the United States, whose mission is “to spread kindness and drive social change through unique community building bread activities which foster unity, inclusion and creativity.” Sibyl‘s presentation allowed the group to understand not only the history of sourdough breadmaking, but how the future could be shaped by sourdough (pun intended!)
Our evening concluded with a taste of Sibyl’s wonderful heart-shaped loaf then took home a sample of her milled wheat flour. Many of the sisters signed up for a future class at the Bread Haus to learn how to make their own sourdough bread. Thanks, Sibyl, for an enlightening evening!

PEO Chapter AX had the honor of awarding the 2026 Kettle Falls High School Myrtie Vinson Inspirational Scholarship to senior Elsie Hume. This award is very special because Elsie was chosen as the most inspirational senior girl due to her involvement in the school and community activities, as well as her effect on her peers and teachers. Elsie has inspired others with her leadership skills, determination and kindness. Maintaining a 4.0 GPA, Elsie wrote of being inspired to dance at a young age, a passion she has poured her heart and soul into for the last twelve years.
The $1000 scholarship which comes with this award was named after one of our earliest members, Myrtie Vinson, because of her philanthropic endeavors to our chapter and the community. This scholarship is made possible due to the fund raising efforts by the members of Chapter AX of the P.E.O. Sisterhood in Colville.
P.E.O. is a philanthropic educational organization founded in 1869. One of its main goals is to promotes educational opportunities for women. We hope Elsie will continue to inspire others as she pursues her education at Whitworth University where she hopes to earn a degree in Elementary Education in order to teach. Good luck, Elsie!

Chapter AX was thrilled to host our Northeastern Washington Reciprocity annual meeting at the Event Center, May 2, 2026 — and what a wonderful day it was!
Twenty-five sisters from Chapters AX Colville, AW Deer Park, BS Chewelah, and O Newport came together for a morning filled with connection, fun, and celebration. Guests were welcomed with a Meet & Greet, and two lucky sisters took home beautiful herb pots as prizes. Highlighting local businesses, Chapter AX adorned the tables with wooden bouquets from Blooms, individually wrapped cookies from Batch Sourdough and created a raffle basket of local goodies, including gift certificates from , House Market, , and more. The basket was a huge hit — raising $144.00 and making for one very happy recipient! 🎉
Following the annual meeting, presided over by Reciprocity President Cheryl Fenno, all sisters enjoyed a delicious catered lunch by local entrepreneur Bischoff of Flour Girl 🍞 — a true treat!
The afternoon wrapped up with a breathtaking performance by bell choirs “Ring Joy” and “JuBELLation” 🔔 — their music absolutely filled the Event Center beautifully.
There was plenty of laughter, catching up, and cherished moments shared between sisters. A wonderful time was had by all! 💕
