In June 2018 we met with Skip Stiles, Executive Director of Wetlands Watch. Skip has a keen eye for the plant species, home renovations, and local changes that have emerged in the wake of sea level rise.

Based in Norfolk Virginia, Wetlands Watch implements top-down policy advocacy in addition to bottom-up activation and education, working for sea level rise adaptation, floodplain management, conservation landscaping, and more. Have a look at their work: https://wetlandswatch.org/

In Hot Water | Trout Fishing Restrictions in Montana

Montana may be coined "The Last Best Place," but that doesn't make it exempt from the impacts of climate change. In a state where fly fishing and outdoor recreation is not just a way of life but also one of the top economic drivers, the issue of climate change is encountered on a very personal level. Like many Western states, Montana's trout-rich streams are snowmelt-driven, making them susceptible to declining snowpack, earlier runoff, and more intense heat. As the streams warm, there is less oxygen available for trout, making them more readily stressed and vulnerable when being handled by anglers. In fact, some areas temporarily prohibit fishing during summer afternoons if streams get too warm.

In this episode, we head out fly fishing with Alec Underwood---Senior Policy and Development Director at the Montana Wildlife Federations (MWF). Alec helped us better understand how the issue of climate change is impacting Montana and the work being done to address it. As both a passionate outdoorsman and conservation professional, he offers a unique perspective that really resonates.

"Talent is not distributed unevenly, it's access and the opportunity to express it,"

It's very easy to quote Rohn Amegatcher at Log Hollow Farms, who is in the process of turning an experimental permaculture farm and off-grid living center into York College Foundation, a unique, intimate learning environment where diverse, talented, and promising students are given the tools to embrace their full potential and pursue their aspirations through a true hands-on agricultural experience.

Tucked away in the beautiful landscapes of Chehalis, WA, the farm began as a place where everyone is welcome and learning about the things we all have in common such as food, home, kindness and friendship are encouraged.

We’re thankful to have heard this story among many others from Rohn, and are excited to see the next stages of York College.

In the US, one notorious rodent is feared for it's ability to both build and destroy. As American Beaver populations recover from overhunting and near extinction, humans are looking for ways to prevent flooding where the beavers decide to call home.

Those who welcome the presence of these "ecosystem engineers" are rewarded, however, with the many ecological benefits that come with a beaver's constant knack to grind down it's teeth.

This idea is embraced by Beavers Northwest of Seattle, Washington, an organization that aims to help residents of Seattle live with beavers.

Due to their ability to hold onto water, beaver dams are also considered aid to climate resiliency. Some are researching this as a means to make "analog beaver dams", created to mimic a beaver dam in hopes of similar benefits.

We're beyond excited to have collaborated with Good Things Sustained, who provided super cool & cute animations for this video. Please follow & support them!

NEW VIDEO - We couldn't resist using a chairlift to frame an interview.

Bogus Basin is much more than a non-profit ski resort in Idaho—it's a year-round mountain recreation, relaxation, and education area. Like many ski resorts worldwide, Bogus Basin is being forced to deal with shorter ski seasons and more unpredictable snowfall. In response to these constraints, the resort is investing heavily in more summer activities such as a new mountain coaster, mountain biking, and much more. Above all else, Bogus Basin maintains a strong commitment to its local community and newcomers alike. They never fail to provide memorable experiences no matter the time of year.

Wyoming Rivers Cooperative is a unique river outfitter with a powerful mission: to reconnect Wyoming communities to the State’s waterways through experience-based river trips and cooperative partnerships.

Founded by Landon Blanchard and Elyse Guarino, WRC aims to fill a niche in the outdoor recreation sector by combining their decades of professional guiding experience and their backgrounds in conservation and non-profit organizations.

We were lucky enough to do an overnight trip with Landon and Elyse who provided us with a one-of-a-kind adventure.
