Director Tobin also testified before the House Public Safety committee today on the Association's support of House Bill 667. HB 667 is a public safety first bill. It is about giving law enforcement, prosecutors, and judges more tools to prevent what happened to Reagan Tokes, Patrick Heringer, and unnamed other victims from happening to others.

Thanks to Fayette County Prosecutor Jess Weade for making the trip to Columbus to provide proponent testimony on HB 667 focusing on T-CAP modifications within HB 667 that will allow Prosecutors to continue to treat those who need it, but also allocate more time and effort on those that want help.

Director Tobin testified during the House Children and Human Services committee yesterday on our opposition to a single segment of HB647, that gives the Attorney General concurrent authority with local prosecutors to prosecute a criminal violation of Ohio’s child-care law. “There’s no more important job right now than being a lawyer,” ONU Law Dean Charles Rose told a room of law students, faculty, and staff.

Rose, who recently authored an article for the Toledo Law Review, spoke about the role of law schools in the 21st century. He noted that pressures on legal education are at their highest point in recent history, while democracy and the concept of self-rule face increasing strain.

Beyond politics, Rose pointed to rapidly evolving technology and artificial intelligence as forces reshaping the legal profession. He discussed the purpose of law schools, the challenge of inspiring public engagement with the Constitution, and the responsibility of future attorneys to place the greater good above personal gain.

His message to aspiring lawyers was clear: always do the right thing — even when no one else is looking.
