Be alert! Late last year, state lawmakers passed legislation making it easier for companies to bypass the public and extract oil and gas from beneath Ohio's state parks and forests. Days after the legislation was signed, Terri Sabo, who owns 2 acres next to Salt Fork State Park, received a letter from a land broker interested in entering into an oil and gas lease with her.

Encino Energy's interest in Salt Fork State Park could foreshadow other interest under loosened state laws.
