The first of its kind in central Ohio, The House That Beer Built is a collaboration with central Ohio breweries and the community they serve. It is the hope that through this partnership between business and the community, we will educate about the importance of affordable housing and giving back while we have a great time!
The House That Beer Built will raise $100,000 to build a home in early summer of 2019 with Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio, central Ohio Breweries, and other business. The breweries in the central Ohio will come together as one community to fundraise and volunteer their time to build a new Habitat home in partnership with a deserving family in need. The build itself will kick off in the summer of 2019, once the funds have been raised.
Partners will pledge to contribute a minimum of $2,500 towards the completion of the home and help provide exciting volunteer opportunities for their employees and stakeholders.
On May 29th we had a had a kick-off event hosted by Seventh Son Brewing Co. to officially launch the House that Beer Built and were thrilled when Lenny Kolada, owner of Commonhouse Ales, and pioneer of the craft beer community in central Ohio, signed-on as the first and exclusive sponsor pledging an amazing $5,000 to get this project started! Lenny spoke of his passion for doing good in the community and encouraged the other brewers in the room to step-up and join him in this unique and community driven project:
“On behalf of Commonhouse Ales, we are thrilled to be leading the effort to make The House That Beer Built a reality. Our hope is that this experience shines a light on the problem of affordable housing for so many in our community. Together, the community in Columbus can achieve much. Today, it's one house at a time. We hope our grant of $5,000 will inspire others in our community to make a difference as well."
His passion worked, because to date we have had six additional breweries make a pledge, bringing our total dollars raised to $20,000!!

About Habitat for Humanity MidOhio
Started in 1987, Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio brings people together to inspire hope, build homes, empower families and develop communities. Over the past 30 years we have partnered with more than 400 families to achieve the dream of homeownership or maintain their homes through our home repair program. We are helping to break the cycle of poverty by empowering local low-income working families to move beyond their situation and
provide a better life for their children. Habitat is also helping to stabilize and revitalize communities by redeveloping properties in neighborhoods with high rates of home foreclosure and vacancies. Habitat sponsors, volunteers and partner families provide the funding and labor needed to build our homes, which are then sold to partner families with 0% interest mortgages. Habitat is a Hand Up not a Hand Out.
