Schools for the Children of the World is committed to providing educational opportunities in underdeveloped countries through the planning, design and construction oversight of quality school facilities. Surprised by the dilapidated condition of the rural school buildings, Bill made the decision to form a team that would return to Honduras and assess school facilities. This team became SCW – a gro
up of architects, planners, engineers, educators, and other professionals who live all over the United States and come together in order to help communities in under-developed countries design and construct schools for their children. SCW became a Non-profit, 501(c)3 organization in the United States in 2002, founded by William DeJong (DeJONG Inc.) and Charles Newman, CEO of Newman Architecture (www.NewmanArchitecture.com). To this day, both Bill and Chuck work and travel extensively in support of SCW. In 2005, SCW Canada (SCW.CA) was officially established as a registered charitable organization under the leadership of Doug Allen, Ron McKnight, and Annette MacDonald. SCW.CA supports projects in Honduras while also exploring ways in which it could lead distinctly Canadian projects.
