Switching Places With Your Parents To help families w aging parents/disabled/veterans that need assistance and services. I was a Candy Striper at a local hospital at age 12.

That was about the time an elderly man at the hospital told me I was an old soul. Of course at 12 I thought he was crazy until his wife explained what an old soul was. I was and still am an old soul and elderly/disabled people have a special place in my heart. I remember the neighbor lady Stella who my kids included called the old mean lady. Stella stood her ground with all the neighborhood kids a

nd adults. I absolutely loved her she would come over for coffee, go to bingo with me, paint ceramics. You name it if either of us wanted to do something we did. Then I moved to Summit Station Ohio a friendly neighborhood full of senior citizens. I started a remodeling business and was always ask to do the jobs for seniors. I watched my friends get sick whether it was cancer or dementia my friends were slowly leaving me. I helped the kids as much as possible with their parents. But I seen the stress first hand. I cared for my best friend when he had back surgery and again when he got bladder cancer. All he talked about was going to see the Redwood trees. One of my friends/customer’s parents lived in California, I had met them several times. Such sweet elderly people that I had hit it off with. Arrangements were made and we headed west thinking we’d be there for about 3 or 4 months. Shortly after getting there the wife ask if I stay with the husband while she went to Ohio to visit for a week or so. Of course I jumped at the opportunity but it didn’t take long to realize he was in the early stages of dementia. He loved to play golf a few times a week which gave me time to speak with his daughter and wife and explain what I seen going on. It was time to take his driver’s license at 84 it was not safe for him or others if he continued to drive. I knew he’d be mad at them if they did it so I told them please let me be the one to do this. It’s so much easier if we have someone other than a loved one be the bad guy. Then my son in law had a bleeding ulcer which ruptured his main artery causing him to code for 30 minutes. He is a true miracle after 30 days he woke up, his short term memory was gone but he was only 34 so we knew he could relearn how to walk, talk and get his short term memory back. It’s been a rough and fantastic year and a half!! Just when I thought life was getting back to some kind of structure my Mom decides she wants to leave my brother house. I understood she’s had bad nerves since my sister passed at only 2 months old. She’s 76 in the very early stages of dementia and there’s 4 of her great grandkids at the house and my sister in law wanted to do foster care and bring in 2 more kids. So I understood I’m about to be 57 and I sure couldn’t handle 2 kids around all the time much let alone 6. So I started calling places and realized there’s no quick easy answers for anything. I had already told her she could live with me but I know our parents love us but they need other people around them. Older to be friends with and younger ones that they feel they can teach things to. I’ve spent hours upon hours trying to get things figured out. When I googled things I just had more questions. So as I’ve been figuring things out I decided there’s a need for us children to find and figure out how to be parents to our aging parents. Today was the 5th Annual Caring for the Caregiver Event!! A few of us ladies got to meet up there. Great connections were made by all. We received some Great materials to hand out to our consumers!! Thanks Franklin County!! What a great couple of days!!
I kidnapped Jade Needum Friday morning to help get some marking materials and gifts together. Friday afternoon she kidnapped me and we shopped all afternoon. That lady has expensive taste!
Saturday we started the day off with the event. Got to meet Linda Bruff in person and we’ll be doing a coffee this week. Went for a late lunch with the girls. Then a few of us went shopping at Bin Mania. My favorite cheap store for expensive things I use in this business!
November is my birth month and we’re Rock & Rolling for Forget Me Not Home Care Agency!!

I had to Thank Mike Trogdon & Amanda Trogdon yesterday for inviting me out to assist them with building a shed. They laughed at me but I finally relaxed yesterday!! Even though it was a long day. Working 5:30am and ending at 9:30pm. My phone didn’t ring nearly as much as usual yet they thought it didn’t stop ringing. Then they got to hear what it's like to deal with someone with Dementia. It so sad to have to explain something to someone 3 or 4 times before they understand something that's simple. Thank goodness Amanda gets it's because men usually don’t and it's hard for them to understand much let alone except that someday it could be them.

I wanted to share the lastest about MyCare. I have spent the last 10 months helping ODM with the OHCW developing a new Self Directed waiver. Everyone should check this new waiver out. In developing the new one we were able to make changes to the Ohio MyCare Waiver. I was lucky enough to be a MyCare Choices Home Care Attendent for my son in law. So I understood things from a Provider and Consumers point of view. I realize people have had problems with MyCare but please don't judge this based upon a few people with bad experiences. It has changed over the years and things have been getting better.
I will continue to work on behalf of consumers and providers to make this program a success for everyone.
I had enough faith in it to push me to open an ODA agency which means we can accept MyCare consumers. I'm so tired of agency owners keeping most of the raises that were given on January 1, 2024. I think we've finally been approved by all MCO that are MyCare approved MCO's.
Please research MyCare, if you have questions please call any of the numbers on this flyer or reach out to me. I try to help everyone that I can. I really believe this is a beneficial product for all consumers and providers.

It takes a Village in these times. I have a fantastic Village, I’m one of the wealthiest people!! Because I’m surrounded by people like Janet Laprad Hammock, she knew of a single parent who provides care to their child and can’t work so Janet sprung into action!! I’m always willing to help with our Village!!

We finally made it we've started our waitlist for Passport and MyCare in the following counties Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Licking, Madison, Pickaway, and Union.
We're also hiring caregivers for all those counties. As we'll have all shifts available in all counties. Starting pay is $15-18 based on experience.
We're not new to non medical Home Care as all our management personnel are also Independent Providers for Ohio Department of Medicaid, Ohio Department of Aging and or Department of Developmentally Disabled providing care to their family members. Which makes us picky because we believe every consumer deserves the best care the same as what you would want for your loved one to recieve.
