So, I’m 50ish, which means I’ve survived the transition from dial-up internet to smartphones, and yet somehow, we are all collectively losing our minds over AI. 🤖💥
Every single week there’s a new "expert" study screaming that AI is going to steal our jobs, melt the global economy, and turn our brains into mush. Meanwhile, our data centers are drinking up entire rivers and burning enough energy to power a small solar system just so someone can generate a picture of a Pope wearing a puffer jacket. 🙄
But honestly? Can you blame people for panicking? We’ve been emotionally scarred by Hollywood for forty years. If you grew up in the 80s, pop culture basically promised us that technology was going to murder us in our sleep. Remember the documentary-style warnings? 🎬🍿
1️⃣ The Terminator – Cool, an AI military network that decides humans are a virus and launches nukes. Classic.
2️⃣ Blade Runner – Synthetic humans revolt because they’re having an existential crisis.
3️⃣ WarGames – A giant computer nearly starts World War III because it doesn't understand the concept of a tie.
4️⃣ RoboCop – Corporate automation turns a guy into a cyborg who shoots everything. Great for efficiency!
5️⃣ Maximum Overdrive – Literally, ATM machines and lawnmowers coming alive to hunt us down. (Shoutout to Stephen King for that fever dream).
With a lineup like that, it makes total sense why everyone thinks ChatGPT is trying to steal their mortgage.
But apparently, Hollywood did occasionally suggest we could coexist. I had to look deep into the archives for these, but they do exist:
🚀 Interstellar – Where TARS the robot has a "sarcasm setting" and actually saves the day instead of spacing the crew.
🤖 Big Hero 6 – A giant, inflatable marshmallow robot whose only goal is to give you a hug and a band-aid.
👴 Robot & Frank – A robot that helps an elderly guy commit jewel heists and stay sharp. Now that is teamwork.
Here’s the real kicker, though: Humans universally HATE being forced to do things. Shocker, I know.
If companies want people to stop treating AI like Skynet, maybe stop forcing it down everyone's throats? And maybe—just a thought—enterprises should stop using AI as a convenient scapegoat for corporate layoffs.
If you force people to use a tool while hinting it might replace them, they’re going to resent it. Let's treat AI like a helpful assistant (or a heist partner) rather than forcing the robot uprising into reality. 😂
Who else is ready to welcome our new marshmallow robot overlords, or are we still checking our lawnmowers for signs of sentience? 👇
