Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) actually commemorates the Battle of Puebla in 1862, when a determined Mexican army — outnumbered nearly 2 to 1 — pulled off a stunning victory against the French forces of Napoleon III. It was a moment of incredible courage and national pride.
Did you know?
Mexico's real Independence Day is September 16th — celebrating their break from Spanish rule in 1810. Cinco de Mayo isn't a major national holiday in most of Mexico, but it has become a vibrant cultural celebration here in the United States! 🇲🇽
