Woodhaven We are a nonprofit that provides opportunities & supports for adults w/developmental disabilities. There really is a wide-range of class options.

Woodhaven empowers individuals with developmental disabilities and neurodivergent youth to achieve independence and be active members of their community. We do this through programs specifically designed to help each person we provide services for achieve their personal goals. Residential Services - Woodhaven provides accessible housing for adults with developmental disabilities over the age of 18 in a variety of residential settings throughout Columbia, MO. Each home is staffed 24/7 by qualified Direct Support Professionals. EnCircle Technologies - This program is designed for neurodivergent youth and is tailored to meet the individual needs of each student. Curriculum and teaching-styles are adapted to help foster growth and ensure students walk away with the skills they need to work in the tech industry or any field they choose. We have classes ranging from coding to improve to self-defense. Community Employment Services - This program is designed to ready neurodivergent students for the workforce. Students will learn how to write a resume, go through the interview process, look for the appropriate job and apply for that job. There are Job Coaches there to help the entire way. Community Connections Day Programs - This program is available for adults with developmental disabilities weekdays from 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. This group-based program offers a wide variety of recreation all while promoting individual choice. Behavioral Supports - Woodhaven provides personal assistance and community support services to individuals with developmental disabilities living in their own homes. Trained staff assist with self-care in an individual’s home, as well as supporting individuals in the community. Our staff provide ADL assistance in the home, as well as transportation and supports in the community to promote community integration and socialization, helping them to become an active part of their own community. The programs are life-changing, and we thank each and everyone of our staff members, donors, Board Members, and our funding partners for making it all possible. The Woodhaven Zombie Pub Crawl is creeping back into Downtown Columbia on October 30, and we’re getting ready for one frightfully fun night.

For just $15, your wristband gets you:

Wristbands can be picked up at Woodhaven October 27–30 from 8 a.m.–4 p.m., or on event day from 6–11 p.m. at 11 S. 10th Street, The District office.

Want to look extra undead? Zombie Pub Crawl T-shirts will be available for $25. 👕

And when the crawling is done, discounted rides home will be available through UR Ride Taxi. 🚕

Round up your zombie crew, dust off your best costume and get ready for a Halloween night that does some good while getting a little spooky.

Halloween fun is coming to Woodhaven 👻🍬

Mark your calendar for Woodhaven’s Trunk or Treat on October 28 from 4:30–6:30 PM.

This family-friendly event is free and open to the public and will feature:
🎃 Decorated trunks
🍭 Candy and treats
🌮 Walking tacos, hot dogs and chili
🎨 Face painting
🏆 A vote for the Spookiest Trunk Contest
🚚 Big Nose BBQ food truck on site, with proceeds benefiting Heart of Missouri United Way

A little pumpkin festival fun and a whole lot of community spirit! 🎃

Jade had a wonderful time volunteering at this year’s Hartsburg Pumpkin Festival, helping pass out flyers to attendees and enjoying every minute of the fall festivities!

This year marks the beginning of an exciting new partnership between Woodhaven and the festival, creating more opportunities for the individuals we support to get involved, give back, and connect with their community.

For Jade, it was a chance to meet new people, contribute to a beloved local tradition, and have some fun along the way!

At Woodhaven, we believe independence and inclusion grow through opportunities like these, where everyone has a chance to participate and make a difference.

A big thank you to the Hartsburg Pumpkin Festival for welcoming Woodhaven and helping us create more meaningful community experiences. We look forward to growing this partnership!

We talk a lot about independence at Woodhaven, but the truth is, it looks different for every person.

For one person, it might be learning to prepare a favorite meal on their own. For someone else, it could be starting a new job, navigating the community with more confidence or speaking up about what they want.

That’s why we celebrate individual wins here. Not because every accomplishment has to be huge, but because each one represents progress toward a life that feels more like their own.

For Mendy, that includes showing up to work, taking pride in what she does and building independence through her job. Here she is hard at work bussing and cleaning tables at the mall, helping keep the space ready for everyone who comes through.

We broke ground on more than a home. We broke ground on what’s possible.

The Iris Home marks an exciting new chapter for Woodhaven and a new approach to residential living, one designed around the individual and built to support greater choice, dignity, belonging and independence.

As our CEO, Joy Wanner Sweeney, shared at the groundbreaking, “This is about creating a future where the environment adapts to the person, not the other way around.”

This milestone was made possible through the incredible generosity and partnership of the William Guitar Little Foundation and Anderson Homes Foundation. Their support is helping bring this vision to life and create a home that will make a meaningful difference for years to come.

One of our favorite things about Community Connections is that no two days have to look the same.

A day might include volunteering in the community, grabbing lunch with friends, working on a new skill or heading somewhere participants have been wanting to visit. There is plenty of fun mixed in, but there is purpose behind it too. These experiences help build confidence, independence, friendships and a stronger connection to the community.

And often, the best moments are the ones you couldn’t really plan for — a new conversation, trying something for the first time or realizing, “Hey, I can do this.”

Join us for one of our favorite fall traditions 🎃

Woodhaven’s annual Trunk or Treat is happening on Wednesday, October 28 from 4:30–6:30 PM in the Woodhaven parking lot, and everyone is invited.

Bring the family and enjoy a fun evening filled with candy, spooky vehicles, face painting, treats and more. You’ll also get to vote for your favorite decorated Woodhaven trunk in our Spookiest Trunk Contest.

Yesterday was a great reminder of what community, connection, and leadership look like in action. 💙

Woodhaven CEO Joy Wanner Sweeney joined our Kiwanis Aktion Club members for an afternoon filled with good food, plenty of smiles, and lots of celebrating.

Aktion Club gives adults with disabilities opportunities to build leadership skills, serve their communities, and develop meaningful connections with others.

Those values line up so closely with what we believe at Woodhaven: creating opportunities for people to participate, contribute, lead, and be fully part of their community.

We loved seeing everyone together yesterday and are grateful for the people who make moments like these possible.
