Yesterday SAFE Federal Credit Union cut the ribbon on their new (and improved) branch on McCray's Mill Rd.

This is just another example of SAFE investing locally in Sumter and ensuring financial access for generations to come. Special thanks to Representative David Weeks for attending yesterday.

Thank you to SRCUS for inviting the Carolinas Credit Union League Advocacy Team to teach a course on advocacy to graduating students. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to engage with credit union professionals from the Carolinas and across the Southeast, share the importance of advocacy, and discuss how we can work together to strengthen the credit union movement. Congratulations to the graduating class, and best wishes for continued success! 🎓👏

Canton, North Carolina, has faced no shortage of challenges in recent years. In 2023, Pactiv Evergreen announced the closure of the town’s historic paper mill, and shortly thereafter, Canton and the surrounding communities experienced significant devastation from Hurricane Helene.

On Friday, representatives from Champion Credit Union had the opportunity to speak with Governor Josh Stein about the credit union’s continued commitment to the community and its role as a steady, reliable presence during a period of unprecedented change.

Champion Credit Union has been a driving force in the recovery and revitalization of both the Town of Canton and Haywood County, helping support local families, businesses, and the broader community through difficult times.

Today the Senate Banking Committee heard from Kevin Owens, President & CEO of Georgetown Kraft Credit Union. Though a unanimous vote, Mr. Owens was approved to be the credit union representative on the Board of Financial Institutions, and his nomination will head to the full body for consideration. Special thanks to Senator Sabb as well as Representative Anderson and Representative Hewitt for talking time to visit with Kevin today!

Telco Community Credit Union was proud to have a seat at the table for this year’s North Carolina State House Day in Raleigh, hosted by the Carolinas Credit Union League.

Telco’s CEO, David Burnette, joined fellow credit union leaders from across the state to connect with legislators, share the credit union story, and advocate for the members and communities we serve every day.

The day included a legislative briefing focused on 2026 priorities—like state charter modernization—followed by a visit to the General Assembly and meaningful conversations with key committee members and legislative leadership.

Opportunities like this matter. They ensure that the voice of credit unions—and the people behind them—is heard where decisions are made. It’s all part of strengthening relationships, protecting our members’ interests, and helping shape a stronger financial future for North Carolina.
