The American Council of the Blind returns to South Carolina
COLUMBIA, S.C. — On Saturday, March 2, at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel in Arlington, Va., the Board of Directors of the American Council of the Blind (ACB) unanimously accepted the Application for Affiliation of the Palmetto Council of the Blind.
Receiving their charter as a state affiliate of the ACB provides Palmetto Council of the Blind (PCB) a strong foundation to expand their work in South Carolina.
Palmetto Council of the Blind was established in 2023 as an organization of people who are blind, visually impaired and sighted, to advocate for independence, equality, and inclusion of the blind of South Carolina.
PCB connects the blind and visually impaired with education, resources, advocacy, and with others within the disability community. Alongside the ACB, Palmetto Council of the Blind works on important issues such as audio description, accessible pedestrian signals, prescription labeling, and improving accessible voting.
With more than 150,000 blind and low vision people in South Carolina, Palmetto Council of the Blind helps make a difference in the lives of our visually impaired neighbors, with support and resources, and helps to shape a more inclusive future for all of us.
