Boone Co. officials are ready to not just build a new jail, but to add to it over multiple phases in the ensuing decades "if necessary." So plans are in place to lockup the future.

Vote No on Proposition L in November.

Also, the 15-year sunset, at an county-auditor estimated $17M/year would be $255M, an "investment in Boone County," the commission says. Grim stuff.

Sheriff Carey is using mental-health conditions and struggles at the Boone Co. jail to justify taxing his way to a new jail. Sites of punishment and cruelty are NOT places to get true care.

No New Jail! (And no new taxes to fund it!)
There's not much of a solid plan, study of the issue, or information as to specifics. Nevertheless, the commission has decided to toss the sheriff's jail tax increase to voters in November.
