ANNOUNCEMENT: Our next meeting on 2/09 is being bumped from 2-4pm to 12-2pm at the Molalla Library.

01/30/2025

We have our presentations coming up, some things I want members to consider:
Length: Make your presentations between 3-15mins long Topic: Choose a topic that actually interests you, if you don't find it interesting you won't convey your enthusiasm to the audience Dress code: dress to impress, think skirts that go at least to the knee and a modest blouse, or slacks and a button up shirt, etc. Hair should be neat and stay out of your face, and nothing too flashy to avoid distraction. Displays: if using electronics, make sure you are familiar with the software and know how to set up. If using pictures, think of displaying with a poster board on a stand or a trifold. Think ahead so your hands aren't busy holding things up. You as a presenter: stand up straight, look at your audience, think about talking WITH them rather than AT them. Make sure to speak clearly and try to avoid the terms "uhh, umm, and like" between notes. Dont forget to Smile! Use note cards to keep you on track, keep them simple so you only have to glance at them to stay on task Lastly, PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!

Here is how your speech should go: Introduction: Introduce yourself and have a catchy hook to captivate your audience, why did you choose the topic and what can everyone learn about it? Body: this is where you provide info, demonstrate your project, make sure you have a good productive flow Summary: wrap your presentation up, don't bring in any new info, and ask the audience if they have any questions. If a question is asked that you don't know the answer to, that's ok, say that's a great question and you will be happy to provide that answer a little later.

Our first riding meet is in the books, we worked mainly on showmanship, then had some fun with some games and seen where everyone needs to be started. Here's little clips that were taken, not everyone had videos as we had to pay attention but this way you guys can look back after a couple more months and see your progress. Great job guys! Next month will be even better!

I will send our the gate code for everyone, please make sure that single cars park as close as you can on the parking pad in front of the arena without blocking doors. Trucks with trailers will park along the round about, make sure to leave enough spacing to unload/ load horses

When we arrive, students must exercise 4h rules which means helmets on at all times around horses (yes even on the ground). Horses are to be brought inside and tied up to tack up, they will not be tacked up at the trailers. Try to push any shavings towards the front of the trailers so we aren't making a mess along miss Meredith's property. Also it is the members responsibility to clean up after their horses as well as sweep out the aisle way. Miss Meredith is donating her arena for the cause, we need to make sure we respect her property and treat it neatly.

Also please bring show halters as well as your riding tack and be prepared to learn and have lots of fun!
