Caitlin Turner and Brianna Reyes of Collegiate Peaks Bank put on a fantastic lunch & learn on July 23 at our business office to discuss how corporate giving can elevate your community and your brand. 🚀

Attendees enjoyed hearing about how developing business relationships through "giving back" not only builds trust, respect, and goodwill in our communities, but also builds employee morale while expanding brand awareness in meaningful ways. Plus, it helps organizations open up professional development opportunities that may otherwise be unavailable.

Thank you again for such an insightful discussion, and we hope it will inspire businesses here in El Paso County to give back to their community.

These updates were intended to make the volunteer experience safer and more comfortable, adding modern touches that will delight the groups that come through the building.

Thanks to the Scheels Gives Back Program, our homeowners received an emergency preparedness kit to help them be ready when disaster strikes. Included in the kit's backpack are some awesome supplies, like a hand crank radio, MRE, portable phone charger, beanie, portable water filter, first aid kit, and more! We are thankful to Scheels for running this incredible program and to the employees who helped put together the supplies to deliver to our homeowners.

Why does Scheels run this program? "The act of giving makes people happy, promotes social connections, evokes gratitude and is contagious!"

We also hope this will inspire others in our community to research and assemble their own emergency preparedness kit (based on you and your family's unique needs and preferences) to stay ready, no matter what the emergency.

Welcome home, Maria! 🏠🔑

We captured this incredible moment when Maria crossed the threshold and became a new homeowner.

On June 20, Maria and her family were officially handed the keys to their new home at our home dedication event. Family, friends, neighbors, volunteers, community members, corporate partners, and Pikes Peak Habitat staff were all in attendance to witness this special moment and see yet another family’s dream come true.

None of this would have been possible without the help of our supporters, many of whom were in attendance for this event, and without the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of Maria.

KKTV 11 News recently featured Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity for our 40th anniversary of building affordable housing here in El Paso County! 🎉

We are grateful to everyone in our community and beyond for helping us achieve this major milestone, and for making it possible to assist over 400 families in El Paso County since 1986.

While we enjoy looking back at all the great things we've accomplished together, we must also look forward to the opportunities and challenges that face us as we continue to work towards creating a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Yesterday was sod day at our Sand Creek development! Over the last 5 years, the future Pikes Peak Habitat homeowners, volunteers, and staff have built 30 homes in this neighborhood, and now we're putting the final touches on the last house.

These houses are all landscaped by volunteers and homeowners with water savings in mind. You can see the beautiful river rocks laid down along with drought resistant plants and trees, plus the grass!

This grass is a strain of bermudagrass called "Tahoma 31" that's been bred to survive at these higher elevations. We've selected this particular grass because of its drought-resistant properties. In fact, once it's established, the Tahoma 31 bermudagrass needs 60% less water than regular ol' fescue! Plus, it only needs to be mowed 2 or 3 times a season!

So, yes, we're building affordable homes, but our view of "affordable" isn't just the price our homeowners pay for the house. Affordability also encompasses the long-term costs too, both in utility costs and maintenance costs.
