Bailey Military Support

Bailey Military Support Our vision is to reduce military affiliated suicides in our community. We started out as a tiny church group in Fountain, Colorado.

We are a 501(c)(3) in Colorado Springs that is dedicated to supporting current and former service members and their families while honoring the legacy of Army CSM Scott Bailey. Our Vision is to reduce military affiliated suicides by focusing on the wellness of the entire family. When the church abruptly shut down, our president and founder, Skyler Nelson, realized that there was a need to continue

serving military families in the community. We officially became a 501c3 in February 2022. Since then, our tiny little group has expanded in more ways than we imagined. We are honored to serve our service members, veterans, and their families. Our biggest focus is the mental wellness of the children in our program. We strive to give our families the coping skills they need to overcome military life. Our inspiration for serving military families comes from the incredible example set by Army Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Scott Bailey. Scott was an inspiration to everybody he met. He was a dedicated leader, soldier, father, and friend. He led from the front and always made sure that his soldiers were taken care of. Scott was the true definition of inspiration. He was a troubled teen that dropped out of high school. His parents kicked him out of the house. He smoked a lot of w**d, drank a lot of alcohol, and was quite the ladies man. At the age of 25, Scott decided he wanted more out of life. He wanted a career he could be proud of. He definitely accomplished that. He enlisted in the Army in Feb of 1989 and was planning to retire in Feb of 2018. After dedicating almost 30 years of his life to his country and soldiers. Unfortunately, he lost his life three months prior to retirement. Instead of celebrating his retirement, his family and friends were laying him to rest at Arlington. Scott went from being a high school drop out to achieving the rank of command sergeant major, which is the highest enlisted rank in the Army. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in business. He never let his past define him or limit him. While serving as a brigade command sergeant major in 2014, Scott was a guest on a radio show that does a weekly Fort Hood Update. When asked what they do to bring soldiers back home, he replied, “What we don’t do, we don’t compromise making sure that they are taken care of before they go there. We need to make sure that everything that they do, that all their medical issues, behavioral health isssues, financial administrative needs are taken care of before we send them off. There’s nothing more important than making sure that soldier is taken care of and ready to integrate with his family after a deployment. That’s our number one priority with these soldiers.”

Lois was one of our founder's biggest supporters in starting this organization. She will be deeply missed. 💔

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of former Fountain City Councilmember and former State Representative Lois Landgraf.

Lois dedicated much of her life to public service and to improving the lives of the citizens of Fountain and the State of Colorado. As a member of Fountain City Council and later as the representative for House District 21, she worked tirelessly on legislation and initiatives that protected, supported, and strengthened our community.

Beyond elected office, Lois was deeply involved in the Fountain community through organizations such as the Fountain Economic Development Corporation and the Fountain Valley Business Network. She also brought extensive professional experience to her service, earning her MBA and serving for 10 years as a Department Manager at the University of Washington.

Those who knew Lois knew she was truly a public servant at heart — thoughtful, dedicated, hardworking, and deeply committed to helping others. Her impact on Fountain and the region will not be forgotten.

On behalf of the City of Fountain, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Lois’ family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her.”

Memorial Day is a solemn day for many Americans.

For those who have lost a loved one in combat, it holds a meaning that most can never understand. Every single day is Memorial Day to a Gold Star family, but for one day a year, the country grieves alongside them. For a Gold Star family, the chair at the dinner table remains empty every single day, not just today. Every single day is a reminder that their family will never be whole again. The flag is a reminder that their spouse, child, parent, or sibling made the ultimate sacrifice and came home in a flag-draped casket.

For combat veterans, it’s a reminder that we were given a gift that our fallen brothers and sisters whom we served with never got, the gift of life. We got to come home, and as the years continue to pass, their memory doesn’t fade to us, but it hurts that it seems our nation forgets the ultimate sacrifice made by so many. Our fallen comrades inspire us to live a life of purpose and service to others.

Join us in a moment of prayer and remembrance today in honor of our fallen heroes. If you would like, please feel free to share the name or photo of your hero in the comments so we may remember them alongside you. 🇺🇸

National Poppy Day is observed each year on the Friday before Memorial Day.

The red poppy became a symbol of remembrance after World War I, inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields" written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. The poem described bright red poppies growing across the battlefields where so many soldiers had lost their lives. In 1920, the American Legion Auxiliary adopted the poppy as its official flower to memorialize those who died in the war. Since then, the red poppy has become a lasting symbol of sacrifice and remembrance for our fallen heroes.

With Memorial Day approaching, it’s important to remember what this day truly represents. Memorial Day honors the brave men and women who died while serving our country. It is a day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and are no longer with us. ❤️

Memorial Day is not for thanking living veterans or those currently serving. Living veterans have Veterans Day, and those currently serving have Armed Forces Day. Memorial Day is specifically to honor and remember the fallen.

One of the best ways to honor Memorial Day is to support and remember the families of our fallen heroes. If you know a Gold Star family, reach out and remind them their loved one is never forgotten.

Many local cemeteries host special Memorial Day ceremonies, and organizations throughout the community often hold events to honor our fallen brothers and sisters. As we gather with family this weekend, may we also take time to pause, reflect, and remember the heroes who gave everything for our freedom. 🇺🇸

Today, on Armed Forces Day, we proudly honor the brave men and women who are currently serving in every branch of our military. Thank you for your sacrifice, strength, and commitment to protecting our country. 🇺🇸

Did you know that Armed Forces Day was created in 1949 to bring all military branches together under one celebration after the formation of the Department of Defense? It remains a day dedicated specifically to those actively serving our nation.

Please take a moment today to thank someone serving in uniform. ❤️🇺🇸
