Well, momma fox from Flemington is actually dad fox! This is a huge win for everybody that helped. Congrats to the North Jersey wildlife rescuers for collaborating.

It would be wonderful if each county had their own wildlife rehabilitation center with volunteer rescuers. If it truly was about the animals and not the money, then New Jersey could have quite the network in place to save as many lives as possible without spreading people thin. We need regulations lifted to allow the expansion of more rehabilitation centers in this state. Egos and financial gains should never take priority over the moral code of keeping animals from suffering.

Also, if we cared more about our wildlife, and not about AI Data Centers, we could save the environment instead of destroying it. The money being spent to build these environmental nightmares could literally build state of the art wildlife rehabilitation centers in every county. The happiest counties in the world are the ones that invest back into nature. You can’t buy back nature once it’s gone, but you can surely protect it before it disappears.

Here are two current situations being handled by our friend Marcia right now in North Jersey. We know she will be victorious and will get these vixens back to their kits promptly after having the corrugated downspout extender pipe fragments removed.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE… STOP BUYING THESE!

Get the flip down extenders or have permanent extenders installed. How many foxes and other animals have to adorn plastic necklaces because we’re to lazy to run our downspout properly away from our foundations with sturdy and permanent products.

It’s like holding a busted hood of a car closed with a bungee cord. It works, until it doesn’t. And when it fails, it fails in epic fashion. Corrugated plastic piping lasts about 5 years tops before the weak points disintegrate. So you would have to buy a new one every 3-4 years if you want to keep the integrity up. OR save yourself money, time, effort… oh, and ANIMALS LIVES by just doing it correctly the first time.

Our very own Bingo, from Washington Township, spent 6 months with her left arm pinned to the side of her head while wearing this torture necklace. The vibration of hobbling around disintegrated the bones in her wrist. So by the time she was captured and the plastic was removed, her entire arm had to be amputated. No animal deserves to go through what she went through… and it was all because we’re lazy and careless.

If you own these, please throw them away. Foxes in particular, chase after mice, rats, squirrels, chipmunks, and rabbits… that in return, run into downspouts to get away. The fox sticks their head into the corrugated downspout and their head gets stuck. Then the plastic breaks at its weak points… and bam, plastic necklace. These plastic rings can cause suffocation and also embed themselves into the skin. The sharp edges cut into their skin over and over with every movement. So yeah, it’s deadly and painful.

Let’s be better humans and stop buying cheap and inferior products. Bandaid solutions to home “improvement” cause wounds to our wildlife.

A special thank you goes out to Ernie D., who let us borrow his work van to transport all our gear this weekend for Pike Jam in Runnemede. Our Sasquatch Mobile 🫈 🚚 is in the shop getting engine work done and has been down for quite some time. Thankfully everything went smoothly as the weather held out for the most part. Just some sprinkles here and there, but by the end of the day the weather was perfect for the drone light show.

Thank you to everybody who came out to support us and the town of Runnemede. It’s always a great event for the entire family. We got to talk with a lot of local residents about what we do, the benefits of foxes, and educating them on the use of harmful rodenticides. All in all, it’s always worth it to do events like this when you can get people to change their minds about foxes and how to protect them and the other wildlife. 🦊 ❤️

Bruce Wayne, #175, from Pitman, NJ has quite the story. Connor S., the good Samaritan who rescued him from the road way, was driving through Pitman a little after sunset. He saw something that was injured on the side of the road and wasn’t sure what it was. He decided to turn around and check, and that’s when he discovered the injured fox kit. Connor scooped up the distressed kit and new he had to get it off the roadway. He wasn’t quite sure what to do with him, but knew that he had to keep it out of harms way.

Upon a brief inspection, he noticed that Bruce Wayne had what appeared to be a possible broken arm. To avoid any potential additional injuries, he placed the kit on the passenger floor of his vehicle. There the kit laid calmly as he was now free of the eminent danger of vehicles that could easily kill him. Bruce Wayne just laid there quietly and avoided movement to prevent what we would assumed to be extreme pain.

Connor made a post asking for suggestions on what to do after containing the kit. About two hours after it was up, our very own AIIT Volunteer, Nicole Mazzitelli, saw the post and reached out to Connor immediately. After a communication line was established between the two, Nicole met up with Connor around 3:30 AM at a local establishment that both were familiar with in Washington Township. It just so happens that Connor and Nicole both live in that town… so it was very convenient for both of them.

Prior to meeting up with Connor, Nicole made a early morning communication with Karen Cooper around 2:15 in the morning. Karen guided Nicole on what to do to in regards to keeping Bruce Wayne comfortable while she held him at her house before transporting later on Thursday.

Once daylight broke, the plan was for Nicole and Jo, another AIIT Volunteer (& Wildlife Documentarian), to transport Bruce Wayne to Cooper’s Fox Den for evaluation. There was a debate on whether or not to take the kit directly to Bayshore Animal Hospital so see Dr. Mei-An Raicer, but it was her day off… or so that’s what Dr. Mei-An thought. 😬 We knew Karen was super busy and taking care of 20 something kits and and several adult foxes doing her normal cleaning, feeding, & care routine. Not wanting to add to the complexity of her demanding schedule, it was an idea that just didn’t pan out.

So by early afternoon, Nicole & Jo handed the kit over to Karen at her facility, then left after knowing Bruce Wayne was still lucid and healthy… minus the injury. Within 10 minutes of Karen evaluating the kit, she was road bound and heading for Bayshore Veterinary Hospital. You know who else was heading there? That’s right!… Dr. Mei-An Raicer. Karen discovered that the humerus (upper leg bone) of his front right leg was completely broken in half. When she made the call to Dr. Mei-An, both their worlds stops and Bruce Wayne became priority #1.

Within the hour of being dropped off to Cooper’s Fox Den, the kit was at Bayshore VH. He was anesthetized, x-rayed, opened up, had a pin surgically implanted to reconnect the bone, sutured back up, and recovering. Karen stayed during the surgery and took Bruce Wayne back to Cooper’s Fox Den where he’ll begin his long recovery and rehab.

The staff at Bayshore VH name the kit Bruce Wayne. He even got to adorn his secret identity of Batman after surgery was complete. We expect great things from this orphan since he has a legendary namesake to live by. What started with tragedy will hopefully one day be one of great success and inspiration.

When we say, “It takes a village!”… it certainly is an understatement. So many puzzle pieces had to snap together to complete the mission in a timely manner. Now a fox kit that was destined for death on the side of a road has been given a second chance at life!

Thank you to EVERYBODY involved… and EVERYBODY that donates and supports our missions. We’re all in this together! 🦊 ❤️
