Picture this: you are on vacation in another country or a remote part of America when the unthinkable happens. A serious accident involves your spouse or loved one, and every second counts. In emergency medicine, the first 60 minutes are often called the “golden hour,” when quick medical care can make the biggest difference.

In moments like these, an ambulance or air ambulance may arrive to get your loved one to the care they need as quickly as possible. At the time, the focus is on saving lives. The financial shock often comes later, when the bills arrive.

MASA helps protect members from the high cost of emergency medical transportation, including ground ambulance, air ambulance, and certain hospital-to-hospital transports. Many ambulance services may be out-of-network, even when the hospital is in-network, and insurance may not cover the full cost. MASA’s website also highlights no deductibles, no copays, no coinsurance, and no network limitations for eligible claims.

Depending on the plan selected, MASA may also help with services such as return transportation, companion transportation, vehicle or RV return, and mortal remains transportation when emergencies happen away from home.

In an emergency, always call 911 first. MASA is designed to help with the transportation costs and coordination that may follow, giving families more peace of mind during an already difficult time.

Mary King, Meals On Wheels Metroport Executive Director, spoke at our club this week.

Meals On Wheels is a volunteer organization that advocate for the elderly and those in need by serving food and providing comfort. They have served more than 1,600,000 meals since 1980.

We were pleased to welcome Chad Mitchell as our special guest speaker, representing the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Chad shared valuable insights on reframing trust in today’s economy, how the BBB helps build and protect trust, and practical takeaways businesses can apply right away.

One key highlight from his presentation was the importance of trust in creating sustainable businesses, strong teams, community growth, customer loyalty, and repeat business. As Chad explained,

“Trust is often the deciding factor; we just don’t always say it out loud.”

He described trust as an invisible currency that customers consider before they spend money, sign contracts, or refer friends.

The Future of Orthodontics

At our Tuesday meeting, we had the pleasure of hearing from Dr. Mehdi Peikar, a captivating speaker and the inventor of Celebrace. He shared exciting innovations in orthodontics and how AI is helping create faster, more precise treatment for both kids and adults.

Celebrace is transforming the traditional braces process by using digitally designed wires customized for each patient. Instead of the usual trial-and-error adjustments, these flexible AI-designed wires apply the right forces to each tooth, helping reduce treatment time from years to as little as six months in some cases.

Dr. Peikar also explained how 3D-printed brackets are made to fit each patient more precisely, helping reduce breakages and emergency visits. He also discussed AirFlow, an innovative technology designed to help expand airways for patients with sleep apnea.

Best of all, this advanced technology and process are being developed right here in Texas. His office is on Hwy 26/Hall Johnson.

Service Above Self in Action – Colleyville Rotary in Cuba

Colleyville Rotary Club recently completed its annual humanitarian mission to Cuba, focused on delivering much-needed medical supplies to the elderly population—one of the most vulnerable groups in the country today. As seen in the photos from a pharmacy in Havana, store shelves are completely empty. For many elderly Cubans living in deep poverty, access to basic medicine is limited or nonexistent. The efforts of Rotarians supplying medical essentials truly make the difference between suffering and survival-and in some cases, help save lives.

This impactful mission is led each year by our own Rotarian Bruce Stacy, with outstanding coordination on the ground through Caritas (Catholic Charities in Cuba). Together, they ensure medical supplies are distributed responsibly and reach elderly individuals in Havana and surrounding regions who need them most. Beyond humanitarian service, the trip also offers participants a deeper understanding of the country’s current conditions. Rotarians experienced both urban and rural life, as well as historic and cultural sites across Cuba—creating meaningful connections and lasting perspective. Colleyville Rotary is proud to continue supporting this mission, combining compassion, service, and global understanding.

If you are interested in participating in next year’s trip to Santiago, Cuba, or would like to learn more, please contact Bruce Stacy (337‑296‑5475) or reach out to the Colleyville Rotary Club.

Together, we serve.

Together, we make a difference.
