College Station Dirt Riders Coalition (CSDRC)

College Station Dirt Riders Coalition (CSDRC) We have completed production of a pump track and an intermediate dirt jump line! Shred it up with the CSDRC! www.gofundme.com/csdrc

CSDRC is a grassroots group of all ages that share the same ideas to promote and build legal offroad bicycle trails. These trails include: Pumptrack, Dirtjumps, Cycloross tracks, short track, single track, skills areas and connective trails. As of now we only have permission to build a small pump track and one dirt jump line, but our long term goal is to promote the sport to groups of all ages and

display a level of stewardship for our public trails that will in turn allow us to promote cycling to the entire BCS Community and beyond. We recently have been decommissioned by the city of College Station. The pump track and dirt jumps no longer exist. We hope to bring cycling to the College Station community in the future.

Well it's official. The city has come in an flattened the pump track and the dirt jumps. It's unfortunate that one person can destroy 1000's of hours of hard work and labor. We hope you all had as many great memories at this place as we did. This park may be no more, but our love for cycling will never change.

Alright all, well the time has come and gone for our park. We have run out of resources and none of our opportunities have worked out. We want to thank all of those that have helped us along the way as well as those who offered up their land for a temporary holding place. Seeing as how the park is worked on by high school students and a few college students, we are unable to put forth the time and money needed to transport our park twice. We will be having a farewell jam before the month ends to say goodbye to all of our hard work and the memories that were made there. More details on that to come! Thanks again to everyone. If you have a story or memory that you would like to share please feel free to post to our wall!

We are still looking into options for our park. We have roughly 30 days to get everything out of Georgie K Fitch park. Some have been gracious enough to offer their land for a temporary place while we find a new location, but we would like to only have to move the dirt once if possible. If you have any suggestions we would be very grateful.

We have been working hard behind the scenes to find a new location for the park. We have to have everything out of the park that we want out by November 1st. We would like to thank all of those who have supported us through all of this and we hope to keep this thing going!

We would like to give a huge shout out to those that have offered their support for this project. Even though the city is forcing removal of the park, the residents of College Station still want this park. We are doing our best to relocate the park and continue to serve the BCS community. Thank you all very much.

We currently have 3 possibilities for a new location for the park, all three outside of College Station, but not too far. One reason that the city gave for forcing the removal of the park was that it has grown to a larger scope than they originally thought would happen. To us that's good news! We appreciate all of the support and hope that we can still bring a public bike park to the Brazos community. If you have any suggestions or are able to help in any way, please contact us through this page or email at: [email protected]

We are currently looking for an alternate location for the dirt at this park. The dirt was purchased by several teenagers with part time jobs and full time school work. We have spent roughly $1500 of our own money and $800 of donations on dirt from local companies. If anyone has a temporary place we can hold the dirt until we find a place that would be awesome as well. We are being kicked out at the end of October and have to remove it all ourselves.

We would like to address some of the concerns that have come out from the park. The first is the biggest one: liability. The city (right fully so) is concerned with the liability of the park. However, Texas Law protects the government from any sort of liability issue. Chapter 75, Sec .002 states that the owner of the land (The City of College Station) does not assume responsibility or incur liability for any injury to any individual (cyclist, pedestrian or spectator) or property (bicycle, bicycle equipment, etc.) caused by any act of the person to whom permission is granted or to whom the invitation is extended. This section has been questioned before about whether or not it includes cycling and it does. It defines "recreation" in Section .001, which includes cycling (article M). Section .002 then refers back to that definition of "recreation". Through this law the city would not be responsible for injuries occurring at the park. http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/CP/htm/CP.75.htm

Here's the article again that the Eagle wrote up about the closing of the only public bike park in College Station. We have gotten a bunch of great support from the community. We will be doing our best to give the community a place to ride. http://m.theeagle.com/news/local/college-station-dirt-riders-coalition-at-odds-with-city-over/article_3b3a9635-7bfd-5360-bc58-9572c891fdbb.html

A small group of biking enthusiasts who spent years building a track on College Station city property says they're being forced to jump to an alternate location.

We greatly appreciate all the positive feedback since the article went live this morning. We are not intending to fight the city on this. They have been gracious enough with letting us use a public park for 4 years. We will never get the thousands of man hours back that we put in, but we knew that going in. This community needs a bike park and we will try our best to find a way to make that possible. If you have any suggestions please comment below or message us. Don't lose faith in us, but most importantly don't lose faith in cycling. It has helped to bring so many people together and create a community. Thank you for all your support. - Jackson
