The CARE Office will be closed on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day. CARE crisis line operations will pause during this university-observed holiday. The crisis line will return to regular operations during business hours on Tuesday, May 26 at 8:30 a.m.⁠

During the holiday, the CARE crisis line voicemail will list available resources. If you need to process an incident after hours you can call RAINN at: 1-800-656-4673. To obtain a SAFE, please contact Adventist HeathCare Shady Grove Medical Center at: 240-826-6225. If you or a loved one is experiencing a mental health emergency, please call/text 988.⁠

The CARE to Stop Violence Office will officially switch to summer operations beginning May 18 at 5 p.m. Throughout the summer, advocates are available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for in-person and virtual appointments. To make an appointment with an advocate email [email protected]. CARE is closed on all University observed holidays.⁠

During the summer, the CARE crisis line (301-741-3442) will be staffed by an advocate during business hours Monday through Friday. CARE crisis line operations will pause after-hours, on weekends, and on university-observed holidays. The crisis line will return to 24/7 operations on August 31 at 8:30 a.m.⁠

Take a break from studying to enjoy coffee and donuts, and join in our discussion on recognizing sexual harassment and the cultural norms that perpetuate it. We will consider what we can do in the moment when we notice it happening and afterwards to support people who have been impacted.

A lawyer from the Sexual Assault Legal Institute is available for 30 minute consultations this spring on Tuesday, April 28, 12-2pm.

Services include: brief, free legal advice and information, questions answered about your legal rights, information about University and Criminal Justice processes, and filing reports both on and off-campus. All sessions are protected by attorney-client privilege.

The CARE to Stop Violence Office will be holding our annual Denim Day event on Wednesday, April 29 from 10am-2pm on McKeldin Mall!

Come meet the CARE Office to help raise awareness about Sexual Assault Awareness Month and learn more about what Denim Day is, the consequences of victim blaming, and how to support survivors.

We’ll be hosting fun activities like trivia, writing messages of support to survivors, and taking part in discussions with snacks and refreshments. Let’s take a stand against sexual assault as a community by wearing denim to show your support!
