A Full-Circle Moment

At Family Promise of Brevard, our work continues even after families leave shelter. For Leon, that support helped him rebuild his life and work toward his goals.

Recently, a Family Promise family needed help after their vehicle broke down. Through a transportation fund set up by a supporting donor, towing and repairs were covered so they could continue getting to work and school.

When the tow truck arrived, there was a surprise. Behind the wheel was Leon!

The same father who once needed support was now the one providing it. He had secured steady work and was thriving. Our case manager was delighted to catch up with him and hear about how he was doing.

As Leon said: “I don’t know what I would have done without you guys. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

One Setback Can Change Everything

Leon and his son entered shelter at Family Promise of Brevard together.

After moving into stable housing, Leon faced another challenge—he lost his job. For many families, one setback can put everything at risk.

But Leon kept going. He renewed his driver’s license, took temporary jobs, and continued working toward his goal of returning to tow truck driving.

He showed up for his son every day. He did not give up.

Stand with Fathers Like Leon

Did you know that fathers experiencing homelessness are often separated from their children, especially their sons, because many shelter programs are not able to keep families together?

At Family Promise of Brevard, we believe families belong together. That’s why we prioritize serving families that many programs cannot, including fathers and sons who need a safe place to stay while they rebuild stability.

Leon’s story is one example of why this matters.

There are simple ways to show up for families in our community 💛

Right now, we’re making sure families staying in shelter have the everyday essentials that bring comfort and stability during a time of transition.

Items urgently needed:
- Diapers (sizes 6 & 7)
- Pull-ups (4T, 5T, 6T)
- Twin-size blankets

These items go directly into the hands of families. A soft blanket can bring comfort at the end of a long day, and diapers help ease financial pressure so parents can focus on what matters most, building a stable future.

Sometimes the impact of housing stability isn’t fully seen until years later. ❤️

During COVID, Mary, her mother Linda, and their children stayed in a church parsonage at First Church through our shelter network. When they left, they still didn’t have permanent housing locked in, but through continued stabilization support and community generosity, they were able to move into a home one month later.

This week, Mary stopped by the Firehouse.

Today, both she and Linda and the kids remain stably housed, continue pursuing their goals, and are thriving. Mary even shared her excitement about purchasing a newer, reliable vehicle this past year.

This is why we do what we do.
Not just for a night of shelter, but for long-term stability and brighter futures for families. 💙

Thank you, Jars of Glory, for donating Mother’s Day gift bags for our family event right before Mother’s Day! 💐 Because of your generosity, we were able to bless moms with something special and help them feel appreciated and loved. Jars of Glory is a faith-based nonprofit that supports youth and families through education, leadership development, and life skills, and we’re so grateful for all they do in our community. 💝

Today, we're feeling deeply grateful for the many partners, volunteers, and staff who quietly step in behind the scenes to help make stability possible for families in our community.

This week, Family Promise of Brevard was able to honor the legacy of a longtime supporter whose generosity will continue creating impact for years to come. The proceeds from this gift will help hundreds of families facing housing instability move toward safety, stability, and opportunity.
