Uplift Drug-Free Coalitions NEW NAME: UPLIFT Drug-Free Coalitions

Brevard Prevention Coalition, Inc., previously Brevard Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, operated as an informal coalition of agencies and community members since 2007 in Brevard County, FL. Recently, the organization has formalized, reorganized, and intensified its efforts, becoming a corporation and 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization in 2018. Our goal is to improve the quality of life in Brevard County by reducing risk factors that lead to substance misuse and promoting factors that protect our community. We do this through local outreach, school-based activities, social marketing initiatives, campaigns, and engaging events that provide a unique and appealing platform. We work with community leaders, influencers, athletes, artists, businesses, and others to implement strategies that effect positive change. We challenge stigmas surrounding substance misuse as well as mental health and strive to disrupt the cycle of addiction and overdoses plaguing our Space Coast.

🌟 YELP is back at Cocoa High School!

Aliyah Bradley, one of our Community Outreach Specialists in Brevard County, recently spent lunch periods at Cocoa High promoting YELP, our youth leadership program.

Last year, 8 students joined our all-girls high school group. This year, after just Day 1 of 3 for recruiting, we had 30 high schoolers who already showed interest! 🙌 We’re off to a great start.

The first slide features some of our YELP returnees from last year. We’re so glad to have them back and can’t wait to see where this year takes us! 💙💚

A big thank you to Cocoa High School for helping spread the word by sharing YELP flyers around campus! 🐯

Led by Elmer Espinal, one of our Community Outreach Specialists in Brevard County, students recently spent time reflecting on their goals and bringing them to life through scrapbooking in their I Choose Me journals. 📓💭

Next, we’ll bring all of their ideas together into a large Better Without It® (BWI) vision board to display in the school hallways. It will be a daily reminder of what they’re working toward and the healthy choices that can help them get there. 💪

So proud of these students for choosing the best of themselves and their futures! 💙💚

💊 Prevention on Main Street!

Terrell Young, our Program Manager for Community Prevention Services, and Johanna Miranda, our Community Outreach Specialist in Osceola County, recently led a Fentanyl Awareness and Naloxone Training for the staff at the Kissimmee Main Street Welcome Station.

Staff learned how to recognize an opioid overdose, understand the dangers of fentanyl, and respond with naloxone (Narcan) to help save a life. 💙

We’re excited to keep building this partnership by bringing the same training to businesses throughout the Kissimmee Main Street area. When local businesses are prepared, the whole community is safer.

Thank you to the Welcome Station team for welcoming us! Another great opportunity to expand our reach and prevention efforts across Osceola County. 💚

💙 Narcan saves lives, and now more of our neighbors know how to use it.

Last month, our Community Outreach Specialist Johanna Miranda visited St. Cloud Villages, a 55+ community, to lead Opioid & Fentanyl Awareness and Narcan (naloxone) training in both English and Spanish.

Residents learned how to:
✅ Recognize the signs of an opioid overdose
✅ Understand the dangers of fentanyl
✅ Respond with Narcan and call 911

We also gave out 13 boxes of Narcan to take home. Every one of them could save a life. 🙌

Overdose can affect anyone, at any age. Thank you to the St. Cloud Villages residents for welcoming us with so much energy!

El mes pasado, nuestra Especialista de Alcance Comunitario Johanna Miranda visitó St. Cloud Villages, una comunidad para mayores de 55 años, donde ofreció una charla de concientización sobre opioides y fentanilo y un entrenamiento sobre Narcan (naloxona) en español e inglés.

Naloxone is a medication that can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose, giving someone precious time until emergency responders arrive.
