❤️Fingerlakes Region grave needs adoption❤️

💁🏻‍♂️: Meet William Ellis. Before his service and Arctic exploration, William worked as a wagoner in Seneca Falls, NY. He later joined the Lady Franklin Bay Expedition, better known as the Greely Expedition — one of the deadliest Arctic expeditions in American history.

Known for being both strong and active, William won the Thanksgiving Day 100-yard footrace held at Fort Conger in 1881 during the expedition. Just a few months later, he suffered severe frostbite in his feet during the brutal Arctic conditions. Expedition leader Adolphus Greely later praised William’s “remarkable fortitude and determination during the whole affair.”

Sadly, William died on May 19th, 1884 while stranded in the Arctic with the rest of the crew. When rescuers finally recovered his body, flesh had been removed — a grim reminder of just how desperate conditions became during the expedition.

Today, his headstone in Clyde, NY is badly broken and falling apart. For someone tied to such an important and tragic piece of history, he deserves better.

📍 Grave Location: Clyde, NY

🪦 Grave Details: Marble headstone

🛠️ Work Required: His stone is broken into multiple pieces. The old concrete repair will need to be chipped off, a proper base will need to be found or recreated, and the stone itself will need repairs.

💲 Adoption price: $100 -> link in the comments
