Make sure you send in your ballot and vote Marie Dougherty for Mayor. When our citizens were misled by the developers representatives, she is the only member of the council who tried to help make things right.
There’s nothing more important than people. I have pounded the pavement to learn from residents and hear what shapes their thinking.
I remember the gentleman who told me he lives on Social Security. He said when his tax bill comes in November, “it takes every cent I have.”
I think about the military veteran who kept his front lawn looking so meticulous, I had to comment. He was so excited I noticed, and he nodded toward the American flag at the center.
There was the grandma who told me her grandson lives in an apartment, but he really wants a single-family home with a yard. She really, really wants that for him.
I smile when I think of all the people who said they were embarrassed they aren’t up-to-date on city issues. I kept telling them, “It’s okay! Everyone says that.”
I’ve had rousing conversations about immigration and foreign policy. Residents want to know the things that matter to them matter to me, too.
There was the man who had witnessed a tragic death and had to keep working. It’s been years, but he’s still processing. There was the woman who had finished her cancer treatments and needed to rest on the porch bench. There was the retiree who excused himself to tend to his adult daughter with special needs.
Our city is incredible because of its people. Everyone’s different. I love it.
Higher speed limit, lower speed limit, more box stores, fewer box stores, stricter enforcement, more freedom. Everyone has a point.
I’ll never stop listening and learning. The people are the foundation of everything we do.
