Art Club Members,
Melanie Stokes will present - Loosen Up! at the August 5th meeting of the Bosque County Art Club at 10 am.
Melanie will be using oil paints and demonstrating techniques that have helped her “loosen up” to achieve a more impressionist style. Because Stokes learned to use oils as a plein air painter, her studio paintings are alla prima (wet into wet) and not a traditional oil painting approach.
Participants will be observing and painting a vase of flowers from life. Bring your oil paints. However, If you prefer to use acrylic or gouache paints, they can be used in the same method. The art club will be providing the painting surface - an 8x10 canvas panel.
Please Bring this Supply List:
oil or gouache or acrylic paints
Gamsol medium for oils, water jar for acrylic
brushes - both big and small. Larger brushes are better for painting loose!
palette knife
paper towels
paper and pencil for preliminary thumbnail sketches
You can see Melanie's work as she is the featured artist in the Atrium Gallery at the BAC in July. She also place 2nd in our Wild About Flowers Art Show. You can find out more about her at www.melaniestokesart.com and in the biography below.
Melanie M. Stokes was born in Macon, Georgia, grew up in Statesboro, graduated with B.A. in Communications from Shorter College in Rome, Georgia and earned an M.Ed. in Art Education from Georgia Southern University. Retired from 26 years of teaching in Georgia public schools, twenty of those as an Art Teacher, she now pursues her passion for painting in her Central Texas studio, inspired by the surroundings of their home on 29 acres near Mart, TX.
Melanie and her husband, Steve, relocated to the Waco Area in 2018, to be near family and grandchildren. Juried memberships in Outdoor Painters Society and Professional Artists of Central Texas (PACT) have provided opportunities for group shows and new artist friends. The big Texas Skies have captured her attention and paintbrushes for the last few years!
"Painting is something I not only enjoy doing, but something I need to do. It is a language of color and tone that brings richness to my soul. It becomes a spiritual act of worship while I marvel at the beauty of Creation. It is an expression of what I choose to see and process in this world.” -MStokes
