Last night in Los Angeles was the most beautiful sunset. But it would have been easy to miss if you weren't paying attention.

How many of us run through our days and forget to simply be aware? Be present? Take notice?

Inhale: I am present and still.
Exhale: I release my overwhelm.

Today, try to find some time to simply take notice of what is around you. Perhaps it's a houseplant that's finally growing, or a beautiful rainbow after a storm, or maybe just your dog frolicking through the grass. May we find the Divine in presence.

Remember the book, “The Things They Carried?” It was on my mind this morning as I pondered all the emotions we carry as pastors and chaplains.

We carry grief, sorrow, joy, excitement, doubt, and fear. And sometimes, when we carry the burdens of others, we can also feel weighed down as if we are carrying a heavy pack.

So what if we released some of the burden?

Inhale: I sit in solidarity with others.
Exhale: I release what I cannot control.

May you serve others without straining under the weight of the task. Be light and spread light.
