October 5, 2021.WKSU. Akron Tenant Groups Unionize For Safe Housing Demands. "Two East Akron tenant groups have unionized and are calling on city officials to provide safe housing. Residents at Wilbeth-Arlington homes and Ericsson Apartments have voiced concerns of black mold, rodents and broken doors to Community Legal Aid, a free legal service to people dealing with poverty."

Tenant groups in East Akron are organizing in an effort to get city officials to address safe housing demands.

September 10, 2021WVXU How An Affordable Apartment Complex Ended Up Displacing People In 28 Units. " 'I don't know what the future is going to hand me,' one resident being displaced said. When City Council unanimously approved a tax exemption for the Arts Apartments at Music Hall in November, they hailed the project as one that will provide 248 units of affordable housing in the city's gentrifying West End. But now, residents in 28 units are being displaced. Most of them were given 90 days notice to move, according to property owners Birge & Held."

"I don't know what the future is going to hand me," one resident being displaced said.

[ ] "Pew Trusts writes that “according to the National Housing Law Project, over 90,000 children in the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program [the federal program subsidizing rent for low-income tenants] have lead poisoning.While the government doesn’t directly build or manage these properties, local laws and regulations are largely responsible for much of the disproportionate aging of America’s affordable housing stock."

Renovated affordable housing high rise in Over-the-Rhine to reopen as Logan Towers, "So far Logan Towers has identified 33 residents for the building, Tilow said, and 23 of them are former residents of Parkway. He said he hopes some tenants will be able to get jobs at Findlay Market, which is about a block away, or at FC Cincinnati’s nearby TQL Stadium. 'It’s a very vibrant area,' Tilow said. 'And having a first-rate, quality affordable housing project here, it’s just awesome.' " Thanks to RinaS for sharing.

Talbert House and Model Group acquired and gutted the Parkway Towers Apartments high-rise, renaming it Logan Towers and pledging that at least half the new units would be offered to former residents.

June 8, 2021. Ideastream. Investigators Waited 6 Days To Secure Footage Of CMHA Police Shooting. "Cleveland police officers investigating the November shooting of Arthur Keith by a public housing police officer waited six days to secure as evidence a video recorder that may have held footage of the shooting. Detectives then waited two more weeks to pick up the recorder from Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) police."

It's not clear what the footage contains, but at least one camera was well-positioned to capture the entire incident.
