“This is an incredible way for The Music Settlement to move into the future." - René Polin

We are proud to share this reflection from René Polin, longtime friend and supporter of The Music Settlement, on what makes the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Music House so exciting for our community.

The Mandel Music House will feature doors that open directly onto our outdoor patio, transforming the way music is shared here. Community members will be able to gather, listen, and even perform in the open air, blurring the line between our building and our neighborhood.

For René, that connection is at the heart of what this project represents. It is not just an expansion of space. It is an invitation for more of our community to come inside, explore the community, and experience music.

Play your part in the Mandel Music House.

What a beautiful summer with The Settlement Singers!

Congratulations to our summer session of The Settlement Singers on a wonderful recital to close out the season. This co-ed adult ensemble spent the past several weeks working on breathing and vocal techniques, performance skills, reading rhythms and pitch patterns, and bringing text and music to life together, all under the direction of Voice Department Head Kimberly Lauritsen.

The result was more than just a performance. It was a room full of connection, joy, and the unmistakable sound of a community singing as one.

We are so proud of every voice, and so grateful for the friendships, laughter, and music this group brings to The Music Settlement each and every session.

The fall session begins Thursday, September 24. All adults are welcome, no prior experience required.

Come sing with us this fall.

Thank you, Ted Ganger, for a wonderful evening at The Music Settlement!

We were honored to welcome Cleveland native Ted Ganger back home to perform at The Music Settlement last week. Ted's artistry, generosity, and belief in our mission made the evening one to remember.

A quick look at the remarkable journey he brought to our stage:

Ted was born in Cleveland and studied at the Juilliard School in New York before earning a Fulbright grant to Germany. He conducted more than 40 works in German and American opera houses, served as a faculty vocal coach at the Munich Conservatory, and spent 20 years as pianist of the Munich Philharmonic. He has performed around the world as a piano soloist, chamber musician, and Lied partner.

Ted wrote his first song in 2009. Since then, he has released 10 studio albums and performed his songs throughout the United States and Europe, with his YouTube videos accumulating more than 3.6 million views to date.

Thank you, Ted, for sharing your artistry with us and for supporting the work of The Music Settlement. Cleveland is lucky to call you one of our own.

Congratulations to Afi Scruggs, honored with the Golden Achievement Award by Benjamin Rose!

As head of Creative Aging at The Music Settlement, Afi is redefining what it means to grow older by empowering adults 55 and older to explore creativity, build meaningful connections, and continue learning through music. Through her leadership, older adults are celebrated as artists and lifelong learners, helping to challenge outdated stereotypes about aging and demonstrating the value, talent, and wisdom that come with experience.

We joined Benjamin Rose yesterday to celebrate Afi and the other remarkable finalists who are making a difference in our community.

Congratulations, Afi. We are proud to have you leading this vital work at The Music Settlement.

A special summer opportunity for two of our students.

Keith Baker Jr. and Josh Nagy spent five weeks at the Aspire Music Performance Intensive at Berklee College of Music, one of the most respected music programs in the world. The experience brought new discoveries, new friendships, and meaningful moments that will shape their musicianship and their lives.

Pictured with Keith and Josh were two of the instructors who helped prepare them for this opportunity: Darren Frate and Ken LeeGrand, whose mentorship at The Music Settlement continues to open doors for young musicians across Cleveland.

Keith and Josh, we cannot wait to hear all about it.

Congratulations to our own Geri Presti, named to the Cleveland 230!

We are proud to share that Geralyn Presti, President and CEO of The Music Settlement, has been honored by the Cleveland Public Library as part of the Cleveland 230, a recognition of individuals whose work, leadership, and impact reflect the spirit and strength of our city.

In its tribute, the CPL describes Geri as a mentor and a formidable leader who embodies the very essence of leadership. Her energetic spirit and passionate, positive outlook have shaped her tenure at the helm of TMS, a 114-year-old community music school and cultural anchor in Cleveland.

Under Geri's leadership, TMS has grown into an organization where all voices are welcomed, represented, heard, and able to participate fully in the arts. That vision continues to reach students, families, clients, and audiences every day across our University Circle and Ohio City campuses, and BOP STOP.

Congratulations, Geri. We are honored to work alongside you.
