Ohio End of Life Options

Ohio End of Life Options Medical Aid in Dying laws currently exists in New Jersey, Oregon, Washington, Vermont, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, New Mexico and Washington, DC.

Ohio End of Life Options is a nonprofit organization raising awareness and providing fact-based education about Medical Aid-in-Dying for the terminally ill in order to advocate for a law in Ohio. Ohio End of Life Options advocates for this option made possible through legislation; a law based on Oregon's Death with Dignity Act. It is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonsectarian organization. Ohio End of

Life Options also raises awareness about palliative and hospice care and believes the terminally ill should have access to all health care options at the end of life. Additionally, Ohioans are encouraged to explore end-of-life wishes, talk to those who need to understand them, and then document these plans. Our Mission: To advocate for passing a Medical Aid in Dying law for the terminally ill in Ohio. In order to do this, Ohio End of Life Options raises awareness and provides fact-based education about the aid in dying laws in 9 states and Washington D.C. Currently, Ohio does not have such a law. Our Vision: All Ohioans will have the knowledge and power to direct their own end-of-life care. The values, beliefs, and preferences that each person brings to these decisions will be protected by laws and rooted in equity.

If you live in rural Ohio and would like to learn more about the U.S. Model of Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) please complete the attached form.

As you know, Ohio does not currently have a MAID law, but Ohioans are traveling to access this option and Representative Eric Synenberg introduced the Ohio Medical Aid in Dying Act (HB835) in April 2026.

Are you an Ohio nurse who would like to learn more about advocating for issues you care about? Our colleagues at ANA-Ohio are hosting an important event.

ANA-Ohio is proud to co-host the Rozella M. Schlotfeldt Lecture with Payne Bolton School of Nursing .

Join us for a conversation with Howard Catton, CEO of the International Council of Nurses, on the importance of nurses’ leadership and engagement in health policy at the local, national and global levels.

As a leading voice in global nursing, Catton has worked to elevate nurses’ perspectives in conversations about workforce, health system resilience, equity and the future of healthcare.

We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful conversation about the power of nurses to lead, advocate and influence change.
