Happy Labor Day, friends!

As you enjoy this day with family and friends, we wanted to share a video for your viewing. In keeping with this week's study of prayer, we have a message from Pastor Carman Lastoria, college and young adult pastor of South Cleveland Church of God.

Take some time to watch this teaching on the Lord's Prayer and how we can apply the principles of prayer in our own lives!

Plant Your Feet in the Garden
By Jessica Smith

About two or three years ago I had a dream that I was on stage as a back up singer. The lead singer reached out to the crowd and started to pull someone up. It was my pastor, and in my dream he looked straight at me and said “Plant your feet in the garden.” When I woke up I couldn’t stop thinking about what that could mean. The only garden I knew of was the Garden of Eden.

I talked to my mom and she told me to let her think on it. She shared it with one of her friends and they thought about the Gethsemane Garden that Jesus prayed in.

When my mom told me that, I knew that was exactly the Garden being referred too. I thought about it some more, and realized it means to “Plant my feet in prayer.” I’ve always believed in the power of prayer, and through this dream God has helped me dive deeper into my prayer life.

The other day I was putting on my sons socks and was thinking about how we pray for others, how we intercede on their behave when we pray for them. All of a sudden God showed me the word “interseeding”. I googled it to see if it was even a word, turns out it is! It’s a term farmers use when they have a crop that needs help to grow and flourish so they interseed it.

In 1 Samuel 12:23 Samuel says that he would be sinning against the Lord if he didn’t pray for the people.

I personally feel this is how prayer can be powerful. First acknowledge who God is and thank him for what he has done. Then we pray for others and their needs. Lastly we ask the Lord to fulfill our needs and what we are going through.

I think this way of praying helps you to remember who God is, and to think of others before yourself.

When Jesus prayed in the garden he prayed earnestly, and his sweat turned to blood. Jesus knew the hour was coming and was seeking the Father if there was another way. Just like us Jesus was human, and was getting nervous and sorrowful for what was about to happen to him. In his prayer though he said “not my will, but you’re will.”

There’s been times that I’ve prayed earnestly for something, and felt like God didn’t show up. That’s why it’s said to lean not on our own understanding, but to trust in him. Which is so much easier said than done. We may never know why things happen even if we pray for a different outcome, but I definitely know our prayers are not ignored.

We call him our Father for a reason because he does love us, and is there for us through all the things we may go through.

So I say to you as well “Plant your feet in the garden”

Today is our first where we take devotionals written by our community and share an encouraging word.

Chaplain Joanie Webb-Dale shared this encouraging message of "Bottled Up Tears". We pray it speaks life to you today-- that you are reminded you are seen, you are loved, you are not overlooked. God holds every moment in His hands. H

God knows about every one of our troubles.
He has seen our tears and He has heard our cries!
For every tear has been collected by God and bottled up.

Do not hold them back! Tears are prayers too! They travel to God when we can’t speak. Your problems are not random or meaningless. If you could, close your eyes for a moment and imagine Jehovah God looking down on His creation—mankind. He sees them being tormented, living in a dark world, temped, in despair, sick in body—tears flowing from their eyes. Imagine God filling up a bottle specifically for each of His children and keeping account of the reasons for each tear that has fallen. He has counted them all. Wow! There is a reckoning day coming for the devil!

God will replace beauty for ashes!

God is asking us to not only to trust in Him but also in His sovereignty. He is with us wherever we go! He told us, “I am, The I AM”! Right now, we may not clearly see His perfect will but know the “I Am” is working on our behalf. God is our present and He is our future. And yes, God was there too, in our past waiting on us! We are His Children and He cares for us!

God is saying, “I am your Strength and I am your Shield”! “Draw close to me and I will draw close to you”! “Know that you have been fearfully and wonderfully made and if you will seek My Face and follow Me, I will open the doors I desire you to walk through and I will close the doors that you should not try to unlock! You shall know My Voice! Know that I love you”!

Psalm 56:8 You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears and preserved them in your bottle! You have recorded everyone in your book.

Psalm 28:7 The Lord is my strength and my shield: my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiced: and with my song will I praise Him.

Revelation 3:8I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it.

Exodus 3:14And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AMCh

Dream again.

When God begins moving in areas of your life you once thought were dead, it can feel like a dream. But this chapter of Psalms encourages that what you have sown in tears, you will reap in joy.

It takes the death of the seed to sprout the plant to life.
The crumbling, the ripping, the shredding you have felt... it can all mean new life is about to break through the ground. Seasons are changing.

We've endured the seasons of being buried, hidden in Christ. But the time is coming when we will burst forth to shine His glorious life.

This week we will be launching our first devotions and videos to help build a community of encouragement and equipment. For our good, His glory.

C O M I N G S O O N

We have been working for weeks on getting together a health initiative to better our lives! At Cultivation, we want to not just address our spiritual needs but also our physical/nutritional needs as well. We believe that our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit and therefore we must take a wholistic approach to our lives!

This week at HouseFires, we will be giving a sneak peak of “Cultivation Health” and starting sign-ups to stay in the loop.

Our health initiative will include meal plans, devotional, meal prepping lives and much more. We will also be setting weekly “fun activities” throughout the community where we will meet for a fun way to get some fitness in.

If you are interested and can’t attend HouseFires or live in another location, please DM us!

More to come LIVE soon!
