A life devoted to caring for others, both as a nurse and a mother. 🤍🌹

Margaret “Peggy” McCafferty, RN, was honored with a Nightingale Tribute and Final Call to Duty on October 12th at McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home.

A graduate of St. Vincent Charity Hospital School of Nursing, Peggy cared for patients in cardiovascular surgery before dedicating time to raising her seven children. She later returned to nursing in her husband’s medical practice, continuing to offer compassion and comfort to those in her care. Her legacy of service lives on through the family members she inspired to pursue careers in healthcare.

We hope Peggy's family finds comfort and pride in the beautiful legacy of compassion and service she leaves behind, both as a devoted mother and a nurse.

Mona Mittler, RN, was honored with a Nightingale Tribute and Final Call to Duty on October 11th at Dicken, Dovin & Reber Jones Funeral Center.

From her early days as a candy striper to nearly five decades of nursing, Mona devoted her career to caring for others. Her compassion and dedication touched countless lives, including those she cared for during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her legacy lives on through the patients and families she comforted and the family members she inspired to pursue careers in healthcare.

May Mona's family find comfort in knowing how many lives she touched and the lasting difference she made through nearly five decades of compassionate nursing care.

Jennifer “Nikki” Carrillo, LPN, was honored with a Nightingale Tribute and Final Call to Duty in recognition of her dedication to the nursing profession on October 17th.

Nikki found her calling in home health care, where her compassion, expertise in wound care, and commitment to treating patients with kindness and dignity made a lasting difference in the lives of those she cared for.

Nursing was also a family tradition, and Nikki’s love for the profession inspired her daughter, Avery, to follow in her footsteps. What a beautiful legacy of caring to pass on to the next generation.

The Northeast Ohio Nurse Honor Guard extends our heartfelt condolences to Nikki’s family, friends, and colleagues. We thank her for the compassion and dedication she shared throughout her nursing career.

The Northeast Ohio Nurse Honor Guard had the privilege of honoring Mary Mishler, RN, with a Nightingale Tribute and Final Call to Duty on October 17th.

Mary began her nursing journey as a nursing assistant before earning her RN degree from Walsh College. Throughout her career in cardiac care and case management, she was known for her knowledge, confidence, and unwavering dedication to advocating for her patients. After retiring from Summa Barberton in 2018, Mary continued her caring nature by devoting herself to her husband’s care.

We thank Mary for her years of dedication and service to the nursing profession. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and former colleagues.

On October 16th, the Northeast Ohio Nurse Honor Guard with our nursing colleagues from Nurse Honor Guard of Eastern Ohio group had the privilege of honoring two remarkable sisters, Martha Molnar, RN, and Florence Miller, MSN, RN, with a Living Nightingale Tribute. 🌹

Martha Molnar, RN, a 1959 graduate of Aultman Hospital School of Nursing, dedicated over 40 years to nursing. Her career spanned infectious diseases, critical care, obstetrics, and infertility care, touching countless lives with her compassion and dedication.

Florence Miller, MSN, RN, a 1948 graduate of Aultman Hospital School of Nursing, began her journey in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II. Her career included bedside nursing, pediatric care, nursing education, and leadership. Through teaching and mentoring generations of nurses, her influence continues far beyond the bedside.

What makes their story even more special is the bond they share as sisters. Florence inspired Martha to follow in her footsteps, and together they devoted their lives to caring for others. Their shared love of nursing is a beautiful example of how one person’s passion can inspire another and create a lasting family legacy.

To Martha, Florence, and their families, thank you for allowing us to share in this special celebration. It was truly an honor to recognize not only two remarkable nurses, but two sisters whose dedication, love, and legacy will forever be woven into the nursing profession. ❤️🤍

Darla Marie Jones, RN, graduated from Cuyahoga Community College in 1988 and began her nursing career at St. Luke’s Hospital on a medical-surgical unit. She later joined Metro General Hospital, where she continued caring for patients on the night shift.
Darla believed in doing her job well, advocating for her patients, and finding ways to reach even those who were difficult to reach. She had a special gift for handling challenging situations and earning the trust of patients who might otherwise remain guarded. Her dedication was recognized when she and two coworkers received an honor for their professional medical care.
Nursing was a family legacy for Darla, following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother. Although health challenges brought her nursing career to an end, the compassion, strength, and dedication she shared with her patients and coworkers will not be forgotten.
Rest peacefully, Darla. Your watch is over. Your fellow nurses will take over from here.

Pamela Somerville, RN, followed in the footsteps of her mother, Catherine, who served in the Army Nurse Corps. Inspired by her mother’s example of service and compassion, Pam chose nursing as her own calling.
After graduating from Cuyahoga Community College, Pam began her career at Metropolitan General Hospital, caring for women and their families in labor and delivery. She later worked in surgical oncology before joining Parma Community Hospital, where she began in the emergency department and eventually found her place in interventional radiology.
Pam remained at Parma for 35 years, bringing kindness, compassion, and professionalism to every patient she cared for. In 2018, she retired after more than four decades of nursing service.
Pam’s legacy lives on in every life she touched, every patient she comforted, and in the nurses who continue the path she helped inspire. Through them, her mother’s legacy became her own—and her legacy will continue with her daughter.

Christine Saley, BSN, RN, CNRN, ACN, devoted more than 42 years to nursing and to caring for others.
A graduate of Eastlake North High School and the University of Akron, Chris began her career at University Hospitals in the Neurology ICU, where she discovered her passion for caring for and advocating for patients and their families. She later served in hospice care at University Hospitals and Cleveland Clinic before moving to outpatient radiology.
Chris was known for her compassion, clinical knowledge, and fierce dedication to her patients. Physicians and residents respected her judgment and affectionately called her “Doctor Saley.” She never hesitated to speak up when a patient’s safety was at risk. Her guiding philosophy was simple: “It’s not about you. It’s about the patient.”
Chris was a Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse and Advanced Certified Nurse, a preceptor, and the recipient of the Sailly Gries Nursing Excellence Award in 2005.
Her legacy continues through her family, including her daughter, a nurse practitioner, her son, a paramedic, and other family members who chose nursing.
Chris touched countless lives with her kindness, courage, and dedication.Rest easy, Chris. Your colleagues will take over from here.
