Welcome to August, Lúnasa. The name comes from the ancient Celtic harvest festival of Lughnasadh which is celebrated August 1st marking the beginning of the autumn harvest season. Celebrations traditionally feature feasting, community gatherings, and honoring the "first fruits" of the harvest. Many partake in pilgramages, one of the most popular is the Reek Sunday pilgrimage at Croagh Patrick, which attracts tens of thousands of pilgrims each year. August is a fresh start, bringing new joy, peace and sunny days to your life. Set fresh goals, and prepare. "Let the sunshine of August inspire you to shine your brightest."-Unknown.
August will bring to our members letters of introduction from your newly elected and appointed board members. Members will be busy settling in their new role and preparing for the upcoming months. Relax, and enjoy the days ahead as many prepare for the return to school for themselves or their children. Some will be joyous as the school days approach, and some will be sad.

8/18 The official feast day of Our Lady of Knock set by the Vatican. Her actual anniversary is 8/21
8/28 St. Augustine's feast day, a special day for me. He is the Saint of Theologians, printers and brewer's.
