To be loved is to be changed 🩷
Sept 8th 2025 I pulled Charlotte out of the local County shelter off the dreaded “list”. She was bald, damp, squinting, had cauliflowerd infected ears and had a very bad odor. You’d have to smell the first picture to really understand.
I figured she just had a skin infection, I could get it cleared up and adopt her out. What I found out over the next few months was she has autoimmune disease. Her thyroid doesn’t work properly, her tear ducts don’t produce tears and she has major allergies.
It took months and a lot of vet visits, testing and retesting to check thyroid levels and tear production, skin etc. 3 different ear meds for months to get her ears to heal and the swelling to go down and so so many medicated baths to get her skin to calm down and hair to grow.
Here she is 10 months later. She takes thyroid meds twice a day, medicated compounded eye drops every 8 hours, eats good quality food, 2 medicated baths a week and an allergy shot every 4-6 weeks. Her care is no joke and she HAS to have it all on schedule. I misplaced her eye drops during the construction last week and had to reorder them & ship them rushed. By the 2nd day she was squinting. I was beside myself. I had serious eye problems years ago and I know what it’s like for your eyes to hurt. Within 24 hrs of getting the drops she was back to normal and I found the bottle 2 days later so we won’t have to order them again. But it was a real problem.
She is now a Fido’s Hope resident. We’ve finally got her on a medical regime that works for her and she is happy here. She likes the other dogs. She is safe, loved and cared for. I’ve had some interest from potential adopters but when I start explaining everything it takes to manage her medical and the cost of it all they lose interest before I’m done explaining it. Oh, and she’s not fully housebroken. So that’s a thing too. All of her care is indefinite. It’s a major time and financial commitment. I get it and I’m more than happy for her to stay on as a Fido’s Hope dog. She is a lot of work, but she is a joy and she deserves to be taken care of properly.
This is where your money goes when you donate to Fido’s Hope. Every cent donated goes directly towards the dogs care.
