Two out of three piggies come running when their names are called Every. Time. Frankie likes to take his time… until I yell FRANKLIN. Then suddenly he remembers he has places to be.

One thing we’ve learned this year is that Stardust has never been built by one person.

It has been built by people showing up.

Someone dropping off watermelon on a hot day.
Someone helping move hay.
Someone reading with a child.
Someone sponsoring an animal.
Someone believing in a dream that didn’t fully exist yet.

Thankful for this community every single day.

Ever wonder how donkeys chew?

Their mouths are constantly in motion while they eat — lips sorting food, jaws grinding side to side, and teeth breaking down tough fibers.

Slowing the video down makes it easier to see all the tiny movements happening at once.

Buckley has officially started acupuncture and Chinese herbs with , and it’s been such an incredible learning experience for our Sanctuary Stewards students to witness in real time.

Last week, the kids observed his very first session. This week, they got to see session two — and the difference in his demeanor and movement was pretty remarkable.

Arthritis is hard, especially in our animal pals, but one of the most meaningful parts of animal care is learning that wellness can look different for every individual. Watching students ask questions, observe body language, and see compassionate care in action has been really special.

So thankful for Dr. Micki and her willingness to think outside the box for Buckley.

One of my biggest dreams has always been to create a farm that helps feed our community — and today we got to visit , a regenerative farm doing exactly that.

We spent the morning learning about everything from regenerative farming to sustainable community partnerships, while sharing ideas and stories about the future we hope to help build.

So grateful for nonprofit leaders like Carolyn and for every person helping lay the groundwork for a more connected, equitable, and supported community.

There’s something really beautiful about people who think of others in the small moments.

Today, a wonderfully kind member of our community stopped by with hand-cut watermelon and mango for our animal friends to enjoy on a warm afternoon.

Not just a quick drop off — but time spent cutting up cool little treats for animals they care about. And honestly… those tiny acts of kindness matter more than people realize.

The animals were very appreciative (especially Peaches 🤪), and so were we.

Community doesn’t always look big or loud. Sometimes it looks like sticky watermelon fingers, happy ponies, and someone simply deciding to make another living being’s day a little better.

So much beauty in community.

Sometimes the sweetest friendships are the gentle ones.

Daisy & Jackie remind us that companionship doesn’t always need words — sometimes it looks like sharing a water bucket, walking side by side, and choosing each other again and again.

Better together.

I hope to never forget the day that walked into our lives.

He was our very first Stardust volunteer and on his very first day of orientation, he had one question:
“Can I come every day?”
Braeden came back again, and again, and again.

Over the years, he earned the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award, graduated high school, and was accepted to the University of Idaho to study agriculture. even awarded him a scholarship because of his dedication and hard work at Stardust!

Now he’s off to college in Idaho and most likely accepting an internship in Equine & Barn Management in Boise — where they shared that his experience with Stardust helped make him “a perfect fit” for the role.

I was a little worried when he left that things would be different as he’d move on to bigger pastures, but every time he comes home, he races to the barn and every once in a while I get messages like this.

Watching individuals grow into themselves will always be one of the most meaningful parts of Stardust.

We’re so proud of you, Braeden, and so excited to watch this next adventure unfold.

Misconception Monday:
Learning happens best at a desk.

The truth is, some lessons are better experienced.

Today’s classroom looked like garden greens in a tiny wheelbarrow, careful hands feeding animals, conversations about gentleness, and learning how to care for something beyond yourself.

Along the way, students practiced:

• empathy
• responsibility
• communication
• stewardship
• observation

Humane education goes beyond animal interaction.

It helps children understand that every living thing has needs, boundaries, and value.

At Stardust Sanctuary, we believe learning should be something you experience — not just something you memorize.
