Hands Up ! Educating individuals on children mental health.

How a child feels about their body can affect their mental health.

It’s no surprise that mass media and social media can affect everything from the products we buy, to our perception of beauty and body image. Unfortunately, children and adolescents are most vulnerable to the unrealistic expectations portrayed by the media.

In this blog post our mental health expert discusses what body positivity is, why it is important, and how to talk to kids (and yourself) about bodies.

Hands Up ! When children are exposed to race-related violence in the media, they might feel confused and fearful.

One way adults can work against these acts of violent racism is to teach our children and adolescents about ways to unite our communities rather than divide them. It’s more important than ever to start or continue conversations with your children and families about how to navigate differences between people.

Hands Up! Set your goals.

Goals are wonderful. But, in order to keep moving towards them, we need to set SMART Goals. Part of setting SMART goals is making your goal measurable. By setting a goal that is measurable, you can track progress and stay motivated to do the work. Plus, when you start with small goals and measure your progress, they add up to big progress!

What is a small and measurable goal you are working towards? Tell us about it.

Young people are getting inputs from all over, even the palm of their hands on a phone screen. In the U.S. Surgeon General's Advisory, "Protecting Youth Mental Health," U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy discusses key factors of youth mental health, including the use of technology and media.

Is this a topic you're interested in as a parent, caregiver, teacher, or coach?

Anyone who works with children regularly knows that social media is a powerful part of the modern youth experience, and it is vital that we learn how to help our children use it responsibly and engage in self-care around technology and media.

In the next few weeks, On Our Sleeves will be delivering free information, resources, and tools that you can use to understand the pros and cons of social media, how to discuss social media with the children in your life, social media and youth mental health, and more.

Now is a good time to make sure you are following our page and don't miss anything. And if you want to get a jump start on these resources, head to the website to see our latest content. https://bit.ly/3vJxsjH
