⚠️ ADOPTION WARNING / IMPORTANT NOTICE ⚠️

As a nonprofit reptile rescue, The Cold Blooded Cove takes the animals in our care very seriously. We want to share this situation so other rescues and adopters can make informed decisions.

Approximately 1½ months after adopting a bearded dragon from The Cold Blooded Cove, this adopter attempted to get rid of the animal rather than contacting us for assistance or to return the dragon.

At the time of adoption, the adopter was specifically instructed to contact us and return the animal to the rescue if they were ever unable or unwilling to keep it. Despite that clear instruction, we were not contacted.

We became aware of the situation after the adopter attempted to rehome/get rid of the dragon elsewhere. Reason for rehoming him? “My son is bored and no longer wants him.” They were more worried about getting their money back than anything else.

We have included screenshots documenting the situation. We are sharing these not to encourage harassment or retaliation, but to provide transparency and to warn other rescues and responsible animal advocates who may encounter this individual in the future.

When an animal is adopted from a rescue, the responsibility doesn't end simply because the animal has gone to their “Forever Home”. If circumstances change, please contact the original rescue. We would much rather have an animal returned to us safely than see someone attempt to pass it along without contacting us.

Our priority will always be the welfare and safety of the animals entrusted to our care. Due to this we will now be changing our adoption policy.

Please do not harass, threaten, or contact this individual. We are sharing the documented facts so others can make informed decisions.

Meet our newest friends! Available for adoption!

Walnut, Cashew, and Pecan! 🥜

The red-eared slider is a common, medium-sized freshwater turtle known for the red stripe behind its eyes, olive-brown shell, and yellow markings. Adults can reach 4-10 inches in length and living up to 40 years! So they are a long term commitment! They are omnivores, eating plants, insects, and small fish, and are popular pets, but their hardiness and large adult size mean they require significant, specialized care, including large tanks with proper heating, UV lighting, and filtration, and should never be released into the wild as they are invasive in many areas.

⭐️ Pet Care Requirements ⭐️

Tank: They need a large aquarium (e.g., 75+ gallons for adults) with a dry basking area, a ramp, and a powerful filter due to their messy habits. Many live happily in outdoor koi ponds!

Lighting & Heat: Requires both a basking heat lamp (around 95°F basking spot) and a full-spectrum UV-B bulb. They like it HOT!

Water: Needs a water heater to keep water around 85°F and requires frequent cleaning or a strong filter to maintain water quality. Turtles can produce a lot of waste so you need to make sure that you have a filter than can handle it!

Have you ever wondered what the skeleton of a hedgehog looks like? Well look no further!

Buttercup the Hedgehog went in to get x-rays after being attacked by a dog. The great news is that she’s healing great and nothing is broken! 💗

Wishing Buttercup a speedy recovery!

Beautiful day with a handsome boy 🖤
