🇺🇸 Another great day representing the Marine Corps League – Clarksville Detachment #603! 🇺🇸

Today was all about community, patriotism, and having fun with families while sharing the legacy and values of the United States Marine Corps. From meeting great people, connecting with future leaders, testing strength on the pull-up bar, and even crossing paths with Batman 🦇—it was a day to remember!

Events like this remind us that service doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off. We continue to serve through mentorship, community outreach, and keeping the spirit of the Corps alive for the next generation. Semper Fi is not just something we say—it’s how we live.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, supported us, and spent time with our team. We’re proud to stand with this community.

If you’re a Marine, FMF Corpsman, or someone who supports our mission, come join us and be part of something bigger.

Big thanks to Clarksville RSS, Kaycee Conard Smith, Derius Ervin, Dessa Milam for your efforts today!

Semper Fidelis! 🇺🇸🔥

🇺🇸 Continuing the Mission — Your Support Makes the Difference

Founded in 1923, the Marine Corps League exists to preserve the traditions of the United States Marine Corps and to continue serving long after the uniform comes off.

For over a century, the League has supported:

• Marines and FMF Corpsmen in need
• Veterans and their families facing hardship
• Community outreach and patriotic events
• Youth mentorship and scholarship programs

Our work is 100% mission-driven and community-focused. Donations directly impact local Marines, veterans, and families — providing emergency assistance, funeral honors, holiday support, and critical outreach services.

Service doesn’t end at EAS or retirement. It evolves.

If you believe in supporting those who have served — and strengthening the communities they continue to protect — we invite you to partner with us.

Your contribution helps us continue the legacy of leadership, service, and commitment.

Semper Fidelis — Always Faithful.

Important Notice – Tennessee Veteran Property Tax Relief

There is growing concern that Tennessee’s Veteran Property Tax Relief program could be at risk beginning in 2027 if the state does not adequately fund it. This program currently helps disabled veterans, surviving spouses, and qualifying seniors by reimbursing a portion of their property taxes.

The issue is not that the law has been repealed, but that the program depends on annual state funding. Without sufficient funding allocated by the State, eligible homeowners could effectively lose the benefit.

Veteran non-profit organizations are planning to engage with legislators, including participation in Veterans Day on the Hill, to advocate for continued and fully funded support of this program.

If this program affects you or your family, you can be proactive by:
• Contacting your state legislators
• Supporting veteran advocacy organizations
• Signing letters or position statements calling for full funding

What the Law Actually Says

Tennessee’s Veteran Property Tax Relief is NOT automatically ending.
However, it requires ongoing funding through the state budget.

Governing Law
• Tennessee Code Annotated § 67-5-704
(Property Tax Relief for Elderly, Disabled, and Disabled Veterans)

How the Program Works
• Counties still bill property taxes
• Eligible homeowners apply annually
• The State of Tennessee reimburses a portion of those taxes
• The reimbursement is capped based on:
• Income limits
• Maximum home value set by statute
• Funding comes from state appropriations, not counties

Why 2027 Matters
• If appropriations do not increase to match rising property values and participation:
• The relief becomes underfunded
• Payments may be reduced, delayed, or frozen
• This is a budget and policy issue, not an automatic sunset of the law

How This Can Be Changed or Protected (Actionable Paths)

Legislative Funding

The General Assembly can:
• Increase annual funding allocations
• Adjust reimbursement caps for rising property values
• Protect veteran relief as a mandatory funded program, not discretionary

Action:
Contact your State Senator and State Representative and request:

Full and indexed funding for the Veteran Property Tax Relief program.

Statutory Amendments

Lawmakers can amend the statute to:
• Tie funding automatically to inflation or property value increases
• Remove or raise home value caps
• Prioritize disabled veterans in funding hierarchy

Action:
Support bills that:
• Expand or stabilize the relief program
• Remove reliance on yearly budget negotiations

Advocacy & Public Pressure

Veteran organizations can:
• Testify at committee hearings
• Participate in Veterans Day on the Hill
• Submit formal position papers
• Mobilize affected homeowners

Action:
• Show up or submit statements
• Sign advocacy letters
• Encourage county veteran service officers to elevate the issue

County & Local Support (Supplemental)

While counties cannot replace state funding:
• Local governments can pass resolutions urging the state to fund the program
• Counties can help collect data on impacted households

This is not a repeal of veteran benefits, but a funding risk. Without proper appropriations, a benefit that exists in law can still become unusable in practice.

Tennessee's property tax relief program is running out of money. More than 100,000 families who depend on this assistance could be left without help.

🇺🇸 Wreaths Across America | Riverview Cemetery 🇺🇸

Today, members and families of the Marine Corps League – Clarksville Detachment 603 gathered at Riverview Cemetery to take part in Wreaths Across America.

With each wreath placed, we paused to remember the men and women who served our nation, the families who sacrificed alongside them, and the freedoms we enjoy because of their service. It was a humbling and meaningful day spent honoring our fallen heroes and ensuring their legacy lives on.

Thank you to Wreaths Across America, our volunteers, supporters, and community partners who helped make today possible. Your dedication ensures that no veteran is ever forgotten.

We are proud to stand in remembrance, honor, and gratitude.

Marine Corps League Detachment came together at Riverview Cemetery for a 3rd major Veteran headstone and marker clean-up. Over 330 veteran graves rest in that cemetery, and our goal was to honor each one by restoring and preserving their stones with proper care.

One of the biggest parts of the project was using D/2 Biological Solution, a specialized cleaning agent trusted by the National Park Service, Arlington National Cemetery, and historic preservation teams nationwide.

D/2 works by safely removing years of biological growth—mold, mildew, algae, pollution staining—without harming the stone. Even better, it continues working long after it’s applied. Over time, the stone continues to lighten and brighten naturally, giving the marker long-term preservation and protection.

Thanks to our volunteers, we were able to remove debris, treat and scrub markers with soft bristle brushes, clear overgrowth, and restore visibility to names and inscriptions that hadn’t been readable in years. Many of these stones belong to veterans from multiple eras—WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and beyond—and bringing their markers back to dignity was truly meaningful work.

This project also has an even greater purpose:
We are preparing the grounds for Wreaths Across America this December, ensuring that every veteran’s resting place is properly cared for before the wreaths are laid. Clean markers mean more respectful photographs, more visible inscriptions for families, and a more beautiful ceremony honoring those who served.

Thank you to every Marine, volunteer, family member, and community supporter who showed up, scrubbed stones, or donated supplies. Your effort directly supports our mission of honoring our veterans—yesterday, today, and always.

MCL had the privelege of supporting the Eagle Scout Court of Honor at Real Life Sango Church.

Commandant Andrew Milam represented the Detachment and presented the Marine Corps League Eagle Scout Good Citizenship Award to Eagle Scout Gabriel Talbert in recognition of his outstanding achievement of dedication, leadership, and commitment to the mission.

The Marine Corps League is proud to support our local Scouts and to recognize young leaders who demonstrate the values of service, responsibility, and good citizenship. These are the same qualities we uphold as Marines, and it is always an honor to encourage the next generation as they grow in character and community involvement.

Congratulations to Gabriel, his family, and his Troop for their continued accomplishments. Thank you for inviting Detachment 603 to be part of this meaningful ceremony.

Semper Fidelis, Gabriel — keep leading by example.
