💜 **Purple Thursday | October 15, 2026** 💜

This Thursday, we wear purple for Jackie Lee Hinman.

She stands here in red, wearing a purple scarf, as one of our **Silent Witnesses**. Her plaque tells her story in her own voice:

*Proud mother. Grandmother. Nurse. Faithful servant of her community.*

After almost 30 years of marriage, Jackie finally saw the cost of staying. She stopped hoping that her efforts would change his abusive behavior. She made the decision to leave.

He shot and killed her the night before she would have gone.

Jackie Lee was 76 years old. She was murdered on February 18, 2024, in her own home in Mecklenburg County.

Jackie spent her life caring for others as a nurse, a mother, and a grandmother. Her story reminds us of hard truths. Abuse has no age limit. It can hide inside a long marriage. And the moment someone decides to leave can be the most dangerous moment of all. That's why no one should have to make that move alone, and why safety planning with a trained advocate matters so much.

Her plaque ends with a message for anyone who is living what she lived:

**YOU ARE NOT ALONE. BE BRAVE!!!**

Mecklenburg County citizens - we are looking for someone with a little warehouse storage they could spare for us to store some furniture. From time to time, we need to set up housing for abuse victims, and we need to store furniture until those needs come up. The use of this space could be a tax deduction, as we are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit. Please let us know if you can help! Thanks!
