Tennessee’s first responders need your support!

Senate Bill 1900 is a critical piece of legislation that strengthens penalties for those who assault firefighters, paramedics, and other emergency personnel while they are on duty. Every day, our members respond to unpredictable, high-risk situations to protect the public. They should never have to face violence without strong protections in place.

This bill is about accountability. It is about safety. And it is about making it clear that Tennessee stands with those who serve on the front lines.

We are calling on all members of the General Assembly to take action and pass SB1900/HB2428.

Protecting first responders should not be a partisan issue. It is a public safety priority. When you protect those who respond to emergencies, you are protecting every community across this state.

Stand with Tennessee’s fire service.
Pass SB1900/HB2428.

We send our deepest condolences to the families of those involved. As a community we need to wrap our arms around these families and come together in support. A loss of life is always sad but a loss of young life is especially tragic. Lord be with the families, the responders that rendered aid, to the hospitals that are treating the wounded, we stand behind you and are here for you. Prayers for peace and healing.

During a recent conversation, the topic of us "poking the bear" came up. I was reminded of another talk I had with someone I highly respected. He told me that "We are the bear that has been caged and poked".

As most know by now, there has been a lawsuit filed by our local union and the 5 terminated employees. This was not an easy decision to make as it does not shine a favorable light on the city we live in and the department we work for. We encourage all of our members to be respectful when answering questions from the public, in person and on social media. This has resulted from concerns and complaints going unheard and the unneccessary firings of firefighters that were progressing in their careers.
When leadership, mayor and council members choose to ignore dozens of people and then allow the things to continue, or even get worse, there is no way we cannot speak out and seek assistance.
If you are contacted by media or if you have questions yourself, please call or text:

Thank You for your continued support.
We are stronger than me.

The 2026 Legislative Conference was a big win for 3180. We met with Senator Bill Powers, Representative Michael Lankford and Representative Aaron Maberry. They all signed in approval of changing assaulting a first responder from a misdemeamor to a class E felony and to change the language on the line of duty death benefit to read 3 years from date of determination and not date of incident (this makes a huge difference if the city were to deny a claim and it get tied up in court). Thanks to our Senators and Representatives that we were able to meet with and the ones that attended the fish fry.

When you see a ton of ribbons on the chest of a Fire Officer or Chief, do you assume they have been in the thick of things or do you assume they have taken online classes and read some books? Was the decoration earned or was it like the Scholastic Book challenge from school (read a book, get a ribbon)? Can they put book knowledge to real life?
